Teaching Students of My Students

Recently a student solicited my help with someone who asked for assistance. More or less I refused to assist because this student who was asked by another person, should deal with the situation himself.

One of the things which I failed to convey to students is that I am not free to begin teaching anyone just at the behest of students. I do not take directions from students on who to teach and what to teach. If I show someone a technique which learned from a particular teacher, then this is done on behalf of that teacher and at the teacher’s convenience.

I cannot go out and find students nor take students which my students attract.

If you attract a student then you should take care of that person and not refer the person to me.

Question is: Why are you attracting students if you feel that you do not qualify to teach anyone and if you feel that you should refer such people to your teacher, even though your teacher has not asked you to solicit students on his behalf.

If you attract students then you should teach those persons and if you find that you are not qualified to teach, then you should desist and stop attracting others, keep your beak shut and try to hide out from people so that you can practice more, read spiritual books, do more meditation and gain the advancement which will qualify you as a teacher.

I cannot take student based on the desire of my students. That is insensible. I take students based on the desire of advanced yogis who want me to serve their behest while I have this body.

I am not a movie star who does roles which his fans love. I have people over me who do not want me to be associating with many people and opening yoga classes left and right without their behest. I have got restrictions imposed on me which help me to advance more and more. I won’t sacrifice this to teach students of my students.

Michael!

This is a classic you wrote, ha, ha. I liked the "beak" expression very much. You definitely one of a kind.

That's why I leave you alone as much as possible.

Certainly a sensible decision since it is Guru's own position. When I first met Michael he explained these things to me very clearly. It is amazing how patient he has been with me; showing and demonstrating that this is not acceptable. Still I kept calling on to him just to pass on to him more responsibilities in the form of "students", and perhaps others have done it too.

It was like knowing the only man in town who can save lives, it's hard to leave him alone. But being stubborn as a donkey, I keep doing it, I get my arse kicked, and you all get to read about it.

Ultimately, this it is about my responsibility, my role, my part. It is about coming to grips with the fact that when we have more access and facility, and we are put in a position, or find ourselves in a position to share it, there is created a direct connective responsibility that is immutable and non-transferable.

Michael has passed on the recipe of the very antidote he administers to save lives, I just tell myself that I am not qualified, I don't have the time, it is not for me to do, to prepare it, preserve it and administer it. I just pass on. That attitude I must change, and now!

Surya Ji!

My gut told me this involved you, ha, ha.

But then you are so sincere that I must bow to you.

This is the dance of the students and the teacher. It is well explained in "Spiritual Master", a book I highly recommend.

Surya, I think your participation on this forum is a great way to buffer the desire to help others and find recruits.

I look forward to many more postings from you.

All by Gurudeva's mercy only!

I was wondering when a post like this would come up. I shall keep my beak very shut.

The better idea might actually be to understand the alternative which implies taking our spiritual responsibilities seriously and making genuine advancement on the path. That pressure to reform our lives and let go of the ''old self" is an issue.
