It’s a nice cool fall morning in New York City, which is the perfect air for yogis doing pranayama practice. The cool air being inhaled into the physical body quickly energizes the subtle body and causes kundalini to move from its normal hiding place in the lower chakras. My pranayama session was very good. I was able to infuse air into parts of the lower extremities such as the legs, lower back and even felt the cool air tingling in the upper part of the back just under the shoulder blades. I was able to raise kundalini three times into the facial region, even having it strike the buddhi organ once which caused a momentary lapse in objectivity knocking the physical body to the ground. The session lasted about 35-40 mins then I immediately laid on my back to meditate. I positioned the core self at the back of the head and observed very little thought construction happening in the frontal part. The thoughts that did appear moved very slowly and did not have a strong enough magnetic force to pull the core self from its position. I could hear Naad in the distance but could not get a good fix on its location.
After about 35 mins of meditation, I felt a bit sleepy so I decided to lay down to see if I could astral project. Once I laid on the bed, I was able to withdraw the attention energy emanating from the core self back into itself which propelled it closer to Naad. Whereas, I could hear Naad LOUD and CLEAR. I could feel the subtle body vibrating so I relaxed more so the core self could move closer to Naad. Then moments later, I was in a grocery store pushing a shopping cart with the mask that I use to cover my eyes of my physical body, pulled down around the neck of my subtle body. I immediately knew that I was in the astral world, as I said “WHOA!!”, everything was very vivid and electrically bright. I pushed the cart down the aisle and saw an old soccer teammate of mine from high school. He was working as a stock person in the store stacking food products on a display. He was happy to see me and said “Hello”, I said “Hi, are we in a dream?” He replied, “No”. So I began rubbing my eyes to double check and everything went black again just as when you close your eyes physically. However, when I opened my eyes again, it took a few moments from them to readjust in that astral dimension before I could see the vibrant images again. Once, they adjusted I embraced my friend, gave him a pat on the back and continued pushing the cart through the store. I passed thru a few aisles not really paying too close attention to the products on the shelves then I ran into him again in one of the other aisles. He was standing on a ladder stacking boxes of cereal onto a shelf, so I stopped to speak to him a second time. Not sure what, we were speaking about but shortly after my subtle body slowly faded from that dimension and I return to my physical body laying in bed in New York City with my mask covering my eyes.
Not sure how much time I spent in that dimension but if I had to guess it may have been about 10-15 mins. The reason I say that is when I started my pranayama session (35-40 mins) it was 7 am, then I cover my eyes with a mask. I positioned my body to meditate (30-35 mins) and got back in the bed to astral project with removing it. When I did remove the mask upon return to the physical body from the astral world it was 8:30 am.

MiBeloved's Response:
Pranayama is the ideal way to energize the psyche so that it stops the thoughts constructions. The standard method is not to watch the breath or to watch the thoughts or to try to ignore the thoughts. Instead of using these methods, even the one using a mantra, one should do the breath infusion which shifts the subtle body to a higher plane of consciousness where the chitta-vrittis image-thoughts presentations just cease of its own accord. Make this your standard method of thought removal. Pranayama is not for lazy people because it takes energy to do it. You have to endeavor with it before you sit to relax and meditate. That takes energy but it is the method for yogis who agree to follow the ashtanga 8-staged process. Meditation has come to mean many things, especially in the Western countries. But if you are following Patanjali you should stick to his 8-staged layout.

Many instances like this occur during astral projection and during dream projection. In these situations the yogi should go back and analyze what occurred to check on the level of existence and also on the mind-imagination connection between the real astral world and the world which the mind imagines and projects into the real astral world.
Even physically sometimes a person will be in a real physical circumstance and project into it something mental which is not physical and which could not be made real in the physical sense. Say for instance an architect told us that he was going to make a floating landmass like in the Avatar film. Now we know that this is not possible today even though we could not vouch and say that it would not be possible in a thousand years if technology keeps developing. So we can sort in that case that the architect can surely find a land mass for purchase but he would not be able to make it float even though his drawings show it floating.
Similarly we have to learn how to sort things on the astral side. But why do this sorting? Well the reason is simply this: When the physical body dies we will be on the astral side permanently and will be in these encounters continuously with no physical side to escape to. Thus we need to understand these astral existences before hand, before the physical body dies.

Timing in the astral encounters is vital. This will eventually give you a feel for astral time scenes. In the astral sometimes you can experience a whole life time in just about 5 minutes or it might seem to be going on forever and still when you check physical time, only 5 minutes transpired. This is another problem with subtle existence and it is a reason why we become attached to the physical world which has a reliable time sequence which does not slow down, speed up, jolt and bolt. Study of how time operates on the astral levels is part of the preparation to leave here at the time of death.
Here is an example of astral time. Here on earth, we have tides at sea which is the seemingly-swelling of the ocean. Science tells us that this is operated mostly by the pull of the moon on the water which is on earth. Okay so within 24 hours one can experience two tidal climaxes.
But the astronomers explain that on some planets in outer space which have liquids, there might be several more tidal cycles in 24 hours and on others, tidal cycles might not even exist because of the lack of moons.
In the astral world however sometimes the tide rises 50 feet within five seconds and then it drops or disappears altogether. It is not as consistent as it is physically. This again is part of the reason why people prefer physical existence because it is reliable in reference to the rapid changes which the astral existence expresses.

I also had an astral projection yesterday morning after I went back to sleep for a short nap in the morning. I awoke in my dream instantly aware that I was in my subtle body and had the attitude that I could do whatever I wanted and therefore immediately sought to do the things that I could not do with my physical body due to society restrictions. This was a bad idea because immediately after I started doing that, I received sensual gratification and awoke from the sensual stimulus.
At this point I've had enough short projections to not be surprised when they occur but now I need to work on focusing my activities to something more productive like seeking out the higher beings and locales, as opposed to remaining in the lower levels that are very similar to this physical existence. I haven't figured out how to do this yet but will keep posting as I do.
Dean, it sounds like you have not had many of these experiences and therefore you became very excited at the realization as most new people do. Try to suppress this excitement and treat it as normal and you will have a more stable astral projection. Great to hear of your experience!

This information might assist you:
First of all the two classes of beings whom you would like to associate with are the siddhas and the deities like Krishna or Shiva. Siddhas are persons who are not in the Godhead status but who are spiritually realized and spiritually evolved. As far as the deities are concerned trying to reach them on your own from this end of existence is a very bad idea because they are so far away existentially from the human condition of consciousness, that you cannot generate the energy level required to make contact with them.
If any contact occurs it will have to be that they are trying to reach you, they are trying to contact you and that is not likely. In the Anu Gita we hear that Arjuna was trying to again reach the supernatural and divine planes of existence where those deities reside, but Krishna rejected the idea. So if for Arjuna they are not willing to give the revelation or darshan (Sanskrit), then it is unreasonable to expect that they are going to reach you.
Even if a deity reaches you, it would mean that the deity has to energize your psychic system since only by that can you perceive the deity, and then after that energization, there might never be a repeat and you will be left stranded down here anyway. There are many stories in the Puranas of great bhakta devotees of particular deities and also of great aspiring siddhas who saw particular deities but once only in a particular life time and only after superhuman fulltime austerity.
It may be argued that in Arjuna’s case he did not have to do austerities and yet he made contact with the Universal Form Supervisory Personalities and with the four-handed divine form of Krishna as Vasudeva or Narayana. But actually this is not true. If you read the Mahabharata which is the text from which the Bhagavad Gita was extracted, you will hear that before the battle Arjuna did perform gruesome austerities in the Himalayas. These were such legendary deprivations that Shiva appeared and challenged Arjuna. Then Arjuna even went to the Indra loka celestial astral paradise which is mentioned in the Anu Gita as the place of Shatakratu.
So it is not true that Arjuna did not perform austerities, even though those austerities are not mentioned in the Bhagavad Gita itself and so persons who never read the whole discourse of the Mahabharata are left to make that false assumption.
The second feature that qualifies Arjuna for the revelations and apparitions is not his friendship with Krishna but his assignment from the universal form to function on the battle field to discipline some corrupt members of the Kuru political dynasty. This means that these deities are disinclined from any revelation.
The other group of people whom you would like to meet is the siddhas. With these there are different barriers to their association. The first barrier is that these people are antisocial. In order to reserve themselves for more spiritual advancement and to maintain their relationship with their teachers and deities, these persons are not free to associate with any and everybody, even with persons like yourself who are desirous of spiritual advancement and who are willing to practice the methods of release.
Let us discuss one person, whom is Babaji who is mentioned as the leading teacher in the kriya yoga successions, the same Babaji who is mentioned by Paramhansa Yogananda in the book Autobiography of a Yogi. With Babaji there is one rule. He is never found by anyone but he finds a person if he feels to talk to that person. So with him looking for him in the astral world is a lost cause. You will never find him. But if he wants to see you, then you will see him or hear him or be inspired within your psyche by kriyas which he releases into your nature.
Some of the teachers like Srila Yogeshwarananda who wrote Science of the Soul and First Steps to Higher Yoga, books everyone should get and read, have gone to the causal plane. Reaching him is useless unless he first released himself from that level because on that level there is no conversation with anybody. On that plane everything is latent, non communicative, a sort of existential dead end.
But there are other siddhas like Yoga Bhajan, and these can be reached if you have a strong interest and if you practice their system of yoga which they taught while they used the last body.
Basically a siddha is somebody who has closed up his karmic accounts on this level of existence. Such a person is reluctant to again open any of those accounts since if any of it is exposed again or is expressed, the whole scope of those karmas may become active and it will be hell and high water to shut them down again.
No siddha in his right mind will open any karmic account unless he or she is instructed to do so by a higher yogi. This is because if one does not have the approval of a higher yogi, then if one gets stocks on some lower plane of existence, how will one be rescued? Our flaky systems of self realisation cannot free us from material existence. These systems will do for the time being, until we can really get in touch with effective methods which can close off this existence.
People who are sensible take risks if they are covered by higher ups, not otherwise. Only foolish people take risk with no coverage or with guarantees from non-self realized entities.
There is one thing that helps considerably and that is continuous non-stop reading of books like Bhagavad Gita. Constantly reading those books gives one a high probability of meeting siddhas in the astral world. The other thing that helps much is continuous steady practice.
I will share with you a little hint. See if you can put it to use. Right now I have not seen Sri Babaji for some time. But there were periods in this life when I used to see him frequently. Astrally I used to find myself where he was in the Himalayas on the astral side of existence.
There was a time when I used to be with his band of siddha-disciples in the astral world. We would sit together around him and do meditations which he inspired to each person separately. So there was a time when I used to notice how he helped people who were doing yoga but who did not know he was rendering assistance. Here is how he did it.
When those persons would do meditation, their meditation practice would give off a vapor energy from their psyche. That energy would rise through the astral atmosphere. Babaji would see it rising and this is how he would know who was practicing and whom to render assistance to.
The big secret with these siddhas is that if you practice whatever little you know and if you do it consistently, they will become aware of it and they will look in your direction, check your psyche and make a decision to assist you.
You want to go to them but really that is a crazy idea because that would mean that your psyche is first energized to the level they are on. It is not just a matter of desire. If your psyche becomes energized sufficiently then you will move up notches in the astral realms and you will be with them but just desire means nothing really.
Here is an example from my own life to show how searching for siddhas in the astral planets is a complete sham. As I said before I met Authur Beverford around 1969-1970 at Clark Air Base gym at Angeles City in the Philippines. I was desperate to take formal instructions in yoga. Three years prior to that I had some flash-backs of some of my past lives as a yogi in northern India and Tibet. I felt an urgency to reinstate the practice. Beverford even though he was a disciple of Rishi Singh Gherwal was mostly focused on a Japanese Martial Arts practice.
Soon after this around 1972-73, Beverford came back to the USA and was living in Ventura California. I went there and he gave me the entire set of Rishi Singh Gherwal books. Many of these books are now out of print and the one that are in print have a very ancient form of English and does not use a real full English vocabulary.
I was highly impressed with two of those books, one was about postures and the other was about Markandeya Yogi who was swallowed into a supernatural body of Krishna and who lived in that body like a little virus for thousands of years and was then spat out by the deity. This was a small booklet, but it was an extract from the Mahabharata.
After I read that little book, I knew that that was it, meanings that the deity had the key to the whole thing and without his assistance you are shit, and you are nothing. You will never understand what is going on.
Beverford also gave me a set of Rishi books called, Great Masters of the Himalayas and he said that Rishi clarified that Yogananda used those book to create his book which was successful as Autobiography of a Yogi. Once when I was with Beverford he saw that I was reading Yogananda book and he said this, “Just for your information, Rishi went to examine his body days after his death and Rishi who was an expert pranayama yogi, did not find any sign of non-corruptibility. That declaration was a farce as far as Rishi was concerned.”
Rishi was in California when Yogananda passed on. Rishi was teaching yoga mostly in Santa Barbara.
So after this I became determined to meet up with Rishi in the astral world. This determination continued for years from 1973 till about 1979. After hunting for him in the astral time after time, in the days when I used to astral project frequently and my third eye was active, I gave up the search. I came to the conclusion that he was either not wanting to deal with me or he had left and entered the causal zone and had completely wiped out all traces of his existence. So after this I really gave up on the search. I was tired of trying to find him.
Sadly to say, when I began looking for him, I got in touch with Yogi Bhajan who gave me the techniques which I needed anyway. So sometimes one gets the techniques and do not realize that one has what one is really looking for.
But it was only in the last two years or so that Rishi came to talk to me. How many years is it now since 1973. That is more than 35 years.
When they want to find you, it will occur right away but when you want to find them, it might be never-never day.

I appreciate the advice. I will try to apply it if I am able to remain objective during the projection. But as the saying goes...."If at first you don't succeed, then Try Try again.
