How do we confirm where we are at present, what's our position right now, on spiritual path?

By a careful study of yoga texts such as Bhagavad Gita and Yoga Sutras. In so far as we can accept that the path was drafted by Krishna and by Patanjali, if we study their layout of it, we may identify where we are on it.

This is like using a map to determine one's position on the earth, or in the country or on the street of the village. If the map is reliable, then we can use it to find our location.

If Krishna and if Patanjali did lay out the whole course and if their information still applies to us today, then we should by a careful study of their literature find out locations.

If however I cannot make head or tail of their information, then if I can find someone who can, that person, who is more conversant with these maps, may show me where I am on the path and may advise me on how to proceed further.
