Query: How can Karma accrue to us if we haven't made the choices upon which it is based?
MiBeloved's Response:
Karma comes from three sources according to the Vedic information. They are listed like this:
Adhidaivic
Adhyatmic
Adhibhautic
Adhidaivic means what is imposed by supernatural power
Adhyatmic means I did which comes back with a boomerang effect
Adhibhautic means what is caused by other creatures, imposed because they are in a superior position for no reason at all.
From this we can see that the assumption about karma being based only on the individual action is incorrect. Actually if you study the situation of being in a universe, you can appreciate that your little microscopic self is living in an imposed situation. Of course at some time, like now, this imposed situation might be what is pleasing to you but it is imposed nevertheless and when it turns, which it will, then suddenly one comes to one’s senses
Let me go over some details about these three sources of karma:
Adhidaivic is from the devas or devatas who are the supernatural people who are superior and who are in a position where their actions could cause human beings inconvenience. These can cause natural disasters and also impose hellish conditions by manipulation of weather.
Adhyatmic is from atma, which means the self. This means that my wise or foolish actions fall back in a boomerang swing.
Adhibhautic means other creatures, like for instance if I am a hawk, then I might kill a rabbit and not even bother to eat it. I did it because I had the upper hand. Or there is the example of the simple mosquito which can inflict a sting or a disease on human beings. There are also virus and bacteria. One does not have to act in a negative way for these creatures to inflict suffering or cause death.
The conclusion is that the assumption that karma is only based on the individual person is a crazy idea. Please don’t mention it again.

Special Note:
There is individual karma.
There is family karma.
There is community karma.
There is national karma.
And there is global karma.
There is the karma of the planets which are controlled by the sun (local universe).
There is the karma of the galaxy.
There is the karma of the cosmos.
One cannot escape from these even though one is only directly culpable for individual karma.
If the parent makes a mistake the child suffers just like that.
If the deity makes a blooper, guess what happens?
