According to Jung synchronicity is “temporally coincident occurrences of acausal events”. It is made possible by an inner, common, connection (collective unconscious?). The intuition of synchronicity develops as a result of the practice of meditation by the powers of “Samyama” on objects or processes. Maharshi Patanjali wrote in Vibhuti Pada 3-45:
स्थूलस्वरूपसूक्श्मान्वयार्थवत्त्वसंयमादःभूतजयः ॥ ४५॥
sthūlasvarūpasūkśmānvayārthavattvasaṃyamādḥbhūtajayaḥ .. 45..
“By the complete restrain of the mento-emotional energy (saṃyamāt), while linking the attention to the gross form (object or process), real nature, subtle distribution and values of the states of matter, the yogi gets conquest over them.”
Particularly the Siddhis developed by Samyama of Prakamya and Vyapti are conducive to synchronicity. Through Prakamya, knowledge is gained of the feelings, states of mind, and inclinations of others. Through Vyapti, it is possible to communicate our feelings and thoughts to others.
This goes to show the powers of the practice of Samyama, and how the yogi must get proficient in this practice before anything can happen.
