Shifting while hearing naad

About a minute or so into my meditation yesterday, it suddenly got very bright. It was as if the sun brightened and came streaming in through the window near my bed, penetrating through my eyelids.

Of course, I took that possibility into consideration, but we have a horrible storm passing over us here in Central Florida, so the sun couldn't have been as bright as I was perceiving. Unfortunately, nothing came through in the brightness. No images or sounds, but it's still good progress.

Today, I sat down to meditate about an hour and a half ago, and did my thing: phone on silent, TV off, focus on breathing.

About 4 minutes in, this loud ringing started in both my ears. It sounded like someone had turned it on from 0 to high. One second it was quiet, the next, the ringing was all I heard. It wasn't deafening, but it was loud enough to make a statement and grab my attention.

I wasn't sure what to make of it. After a minute or so, it died down to where I could barely hear it. I had to strain a bit to make sure it was still there. It stayed at that volume, and I started seeing a pulsing brightness, though not as bright as yesterday. Then both stopped altogether. And the sudden dead silence jolted me out of my meditation. I felt the need to say out loud, "Ok, you got my attention. I heard that loud and clear."

So, I want to know: has anyone had any similar experiences? I'm really excited to see what comes next for me.

MiBeloved’s Response:

yogis listen to that ringing

it is called naad sound

perhaps you can do an Internet search and read up on it

the light which penetrated your head might be a light which is called cosmic buddhi in yogic conversations

really, you should get into meditation

my guess is that you were a yogi in your past life and now those experiences are coming back to you from past life meditation advancement

the ringing is not always part of an astral projection but it can be part.

It is not a must.

For one thing the ringing is going on for 24 hours per day but the mind or the attention of the astral projector is not always focused on it.

It is called naad in yogic circles.

What might the decrease in its volume mean? It started loud from out of nowhere, died down, then stopped altogether, and things went silent.

MiBeloved’s Response:

The decrease means that your existential location has shifted.

For example in meditation sometimes, the sound appears to be coming from the right ear, but rarely it appears to be from the left ear or from all directions at the same time.

Sometimes it seems that it is distant like galaxies away and sometimes it seems to be so near that it is hard to tell if it in the self or not in the self.

But these locations are based on where the self is located existentially.

How to know or prove this?

Here is what we do in yoga:

We practice breath infusion which is also called breath of fire or bhastrika pranayama. When that is done, the mind's energy may jump into a higher level and when it does everything seems different, like if you took an elevator to the top floor of a building, when you look out it will seem different because your are now located on a higher level.

I think the real question is how did you shift in reference to the sound, so that you were nearer to it and then further away from it.

Since these shifts might occur without your intent and effort, it is hard to figure it all out.

It's didn't feel like there was a shift in my position, be it nearer or further from it. It just decreased in volume. I've heard ringing in my ears before, but this time was distinctive, unlike the other times prior.

MiBeloved’s Response:

By shift of position, I did not mean a physical thing or a thing having to do with distance or even posture. I meant existential shift, like say for example if I am sitting in a hall reading a book, and then I defocus from reading but still I am sitting there and my eyes are position as I am reading.

No one might know that mentally there was a shift and that I am actually far away from the book mentally.

Sometimes in lucid dreaming and astral projection you can see someone but the person cannot see you even though your dream form and the person's are so close together and you can perceive the person. So it is that kind of thing.

The way to master this is to practice meditation and then what is subjective becomes objective and what is real subtle or psychic becomes very gross to you.

That's probably why the ringing didn't stay at its initial loud volume for very long: I lost some of my focus.

MiBeloved's Response

I can tell you that sometimes it takes years of practice to get the thoughts to stop. It is not an easy task. Samadhi which is a term used in yogic meditation means being in a state where there are no thoughts.

But here is something you might try. When you hear the ringing sound, try to go into it. My experience with it is that if you go into it, if you are listening to it, then the mind stops its picture-thought show. But at first it might be difficult to stay in the sound since the mind's default position is with imaging and with you staring at the images being entertained as it was.

There is also another technique which is to face backwards and to go backwards in the head.

The thoughts are manufactured usually in the frontal part of the head, so if you go backwards and if you can do so without leaving any attention in the front, then the thoughts producing psychic mechanism shuts down, because it cannot operate without your attention.
