Meditation with a Blindfold.

I recommend using a blindfold during meditation practice and during breath infusion practice as well. Why?

I found that this helps tremendously to internalize, then do the pratyahar sensual energy withdrawal practice. If while doing breath infusion the eyes lids are open then it is likely that the vision energy will be trying to make contact with the external surrounding, which may detract from inner focus.

Is a blindfold necessary for advanced meditators?

No, it is not.

How advanced is advanced?

You tell me.

I was meditating since around 1971 and I still find a blindfold to be helpful. I am still using a blindfold and am still deriving benefits from it.

When will I give up that support?

When I find that using it gives me no advantage.

Recently within the last week, I noticed during meditation that the vision sense was lying down like a tired dog during mediation. I looked down and I saw it. I thought to myself,

“This is wonderful, how this sense retired and left me with a more efficient pratyahar sensual energy withdrawal. This is wonderful that I no longer have to pull in this sense. It shuts down of its own accord. It lost interest in pursuing forms and shapes.”

This happened because of using a blindfold. It was wonderful because it was like I would have to arouse that particular sense, the vision energy, so as to perceive anything in the frontal part of the subtle head, and still even though it retired, a higher vision perception occurred which did not use the usual vision sense from this plane of existence.

I moved naad sound into the frontal region of the subtle head when I noticed that the vision sense was sleeping below me in the subtle head. It had the form of dried volcanic mud which cooled off a long time ago and which formed a crusted ridge of hard material. I stepped over it and proceed to the frontal part of the subtle head with naad.

Who said everything is void in advanced meditation and that there are no forms of anything there?
