I stumbled upon this old post of MiBeloved today. It illustrates the layers of understanding and subtle body awareness required to understand, apply and master the techniques outlined in the ancient yoga texts.
Hope and desire energies. Sounds simple enough. Maybe I can get a handle on those.
However, after re-reading this post, I am shown and reminded how complicated existence is. Even something like the forces of hope and desire, which I thought I understood to a degree in my current body, originate in the deepest levels of the psyche which are not currently accessed by me.
There are seemingly insurmountable challenges to overcome as one tries to get the illusive and rare invitation to a spiritual place.

In spiritual life one has to be certain not to understate any energy that has power to upset one’s advancement. If an energy can cause one to take an haphazard rebirth and become lost as it were in any life, then that energy is worthy of note and one should always be cautious in dealing with it.
It is like if one were a gazelle on the African continent and there are lions around. One would be a real fool to run off talking nonsense about one’s safety. There is no safety for a gazelle in lion country. And the gazelle would be a great illusionist to begin talking about how everyone is one and everything is safe and okay. It is just not the reality. One has to call a spade a spade, and so long as one is using that perishable gazelle body one has to be careful in lion terrain.
Patanjali alerted those yogis who accept his authority, that hope and desire energies are eternal. This makes for the implication that these energies will always be stalking a yogi no matter what, unless the yogi can get into a dimension where the energies compliment his advancement rather than always undermine them. Here is the verse from Patanjali:
=======================
taasaam anaaditvam ca aashishah nityatvaat
taasaam – those; anaaditvam – what is without beginning, primeval; ca – and; aashishah – hope and desire energies; nityatvaat – what is eternal.
Those memories and impressions are primeval, without a beginning. Energies of hope and desire are eternal as well. (Yoga Sutras 4.10)
=====================================
Patanjali mentioned this in reference to time and circumstance which usually trips up a yogi as he transmigrates and gets careless thinking that he has this situation under his thumb or that he has reached some safe state of consciousness.
Time and circumstance singles out a specific yogi and goes about its way of letting him or her understand that they are individuals who can be disciplined and confined at the whim of fate.
Last night in the astral world, I found my astral body to be in a parallel world which is adjacent to this physical level. It was in a place which was near to where my body took birth in Guyana South American. It was in reference to a hope and desire energy which was lodged in my psyche during the childhood of this body.
There was a girl who used to attend a church where my grandmother used to take me as a child to get religious training. I knew the girl then and had a liking to her. Unfortunately, the girl got this idea that I would be with her as a spouse and so this desire somehow got lodged into my psyche. For my part, my friendship with the girl at the time was before sexual maturity, so it did not have a sexual flavor to it, but of course it had the flavor of gender, because even before sexual maturity, there is gender difference which are clearly recognized. In fact real gender is realized before sexual maturity and when that maturity comes into the picture, the gender aspect is overtaken by and overshadowed by the sexual aspect.
In any case, after meeting this person in the astral world, I decided to check to see what was in my psyche that caused my astral body to meet with her in compulsion. When I looked I saw a hope-desire energy in my subtle body, where the subtle body is connected to the causal body. I thought to myself, “Shit! This is dangerous!”
And with that I awoke on the physical side and pondered the situation.
It was a dead horse situation because the girl feels that I have a responsibility to her to be with her always. It is therefore asinine to try to influence the girl about this so I have to just deal with the subtle body but if the hope and desires energies are eternal, then dealing with the subtle body is a stop-gap method which is actually a waste of time in the long run.
One has to just try to scrap that body in some way or the other, or just agree to live with it and accept its undesirable aspects. There is no point in dreaming up any utopian ideas about it.
