Quote of the Week - Liberation

“The impetus for liberation comes in an instant, but the actual process of being liberated takes time.”

Origin: Michael Beloved / Meditation Pictorial

Dear Beloved says: As with most things in this world, liberation is easy to imagine and to desire, but without a real investment, actual results remain elusive.  The realization of the illusory nature of this world comes in the blink of an eye and at an unexpected time.  It is at that time that one must take advantage of this realization and use it as a driving motivation to change the inner self.  And this can happen repeatedly as one realizes and then forgets...

The facet of the psyche which forestalls liberation is called conditioning. This means that in many thousands of lives, one becomes habituated to a certain way of doing things and one is given by material nature, a focus for attention.

Thus even after getting the impetus for liberation, this conditioning continues in full force. It is supported by material nature, which makes matters worse and which reduces the probability for success.

There is also the idea that liberation should be easy. This is similar to the idea of salvation which is promised by most orthodox religions.

What is easy though is what is shown by and endorsed by material nature. Even some offers of salvations which are given in some religions, are really false offers which are shown to the person by material nature, whose only concern is to keep the spirit spell-bound.

Only those who feel that liberation is a priority have a chance of becoming liberated. Of these persons, only those who strive with all their attention will attain it.

And still even if one feels that one is not serious enough, one should still endeavor for it. This is like putting a down payment on a much desired item which one cannot afford at the moment.

A total understatement, since this really means life times! But encouragements are welcome given the facts.

So nature does play an active role in conning us even further?!

Don't we do enough damage just on our own?

Granted we are not the doers...

I don't like the idea of down payments...but that's a good analogy for the worth of liberation.  It has a high value that cannot be easily redeemed.

---------------------------------

Perhaps one can look at this through the microcosm of a heart attack that strikes quickly and unexpectedly.  The ambulance rushes the victim to the hospital just in time and recovery begins slowly.  The doctor tells you that you can't eat red meats anymore and that you have to significantly restrict your diet, increase your veggies, and exercise daily for a specific amount of time.

Some never experience a heart attack because they've been taking these steps throughout their lives.  Others will have to begin these steps and will be successful.  The rest will take these steps for a limited time and then resume their old habits and have another heart attack.

Likewise, some people like monks, nuns, yogis, and other adepts have been taking steps throughout their lives to increase their chances of liberation.  Others reach a point in their life where they are unfulfilled, depressed, betrayed, or otherwise unhappy and then decide to seek liberation.  This can be compared to a heart attack that strikes quickly or it could be also a heart attack that was building over a period of time and not completely unexpected.

Unlike with a heart attack, most people who reach a point where they begin seeking liberation, will not have access to a 'doctor' right away to tell them what to do.  They must first recognize their need for something more spiritual and then find the right person to help guide them in that path.  So liberation doesn't come easy and one could easily turn to drugs or antidepressants as a temporary fix and end up repeating the vicious cycle all over again.
