I am currently reading a book titled, Dirty Wars*, which details some of the decisions made and also gives some facts about what the other side (USA enemies) were actually doing and said. In this book both sides are reported evenly. Much of what happened was haphazard to the say the least but also some of the USA officials involved were people who were serving government for some years but who had desires and instincts which the particular time period facilitated.It begs the question of why history (read Fate) arranges for certain people, even crazy people, to be in certain political or military positions at certain times.
