During meditation I can successfully stop my thoughts for a few minutes. When I reach this stage, a feeling of bliss is almost always present. Few seconds later I often perceive random images. (For example: a glass of water with ice, some trees, a person with a backpack) I place my consciousness to the center of my mind or perhaps a bit backwards. These images appear between me and my forehead. Once I saw a grey/greenish smoke or haze which suddenly disappeared and a picture of a church appeared at the same location. Unfortunately I can see these things just for a second or less before they disappear.

MiBeloved's Response:
This location is the place of the buddhi or imagination orb. This is a psychic organ but it is for the most part invisible. It becomes visible only through what it illustrates within the head space at that specific location.
Chapter 2 of Bhagavad Gita concerns buddhi yoga which was a process given for curbing this psychic organ. Patanjali has listed its activities as:
1. Correct perception
2. Incorrect perception
3. Imagination
4. Illustration of memory
5. Status of sleep
He calls these cittavritti or the motions of objective consciousness.
Sometimes, and this happens rarely, a student yogi will see this imagination orb in mediation but its presence is real in terms of its activities of illustrating ideas within the mind space in that specific location where those images were appearing to you.
Always get to the back of the head, when this is operating in its usual way and only give it attention when it switched to a transcendental mode of operation. Discipline this orb so that it no longer runs the show or is influenced by the senses or the kundalini to run the show.
The efficient way to discipline it, is to withdraw interest in what it does or what it proposes.
