AM Practice

Woke up during Brahma-Muhurta (5:00 AM). Practice was good overall and lasted 80 minutes.

Svadhyaya: Switched to “Meditation Pictorial”, continued with Chapter 14: “Thought Concentration”.

Dedication: 5-minute mantra session invocation of Lord Shiva. Practice dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Breath Infusion: 45 minutes of Bhastrika prânâyâma while doing several asanas. Concentration was again mainly on the thighs. Kundalini was solicited successfully twice before going into meditation.

Meditation: Consisted of 30 minutes with concentration on the Naad sound which was quite audible and was followed and tuned into. I just held onto Naad as instructed.

Spiritual State of Mind: Upon awakening, the mind was Tamasic, moving towards Tamas or dullness, dwelling on abhiniveśa– strong focus on mundane existence due to instinctive fear of death, bringing fear of death and money-worries to the forefront. I call these thoughts “the usual suspects”. Remember Patanjali’s: “As it is, the strong focus on mundane existence, which is due to the instinctive fear of death, which is sustained by its own potencies, and which operates for self-preservation, is developed even in the wise man”. So…why these thoughts arise? Abhiniveśa; lack of trust, lack of perspective of eternity, impotent desire to control. I counteracted that right away with mantra and positive thinking (Brahman-Abhyasa).

Dream recall: One dream recalled distinctly. Logged in dream-log notebook. Not of good import. I did some prânâyâma before going to bed to energize the subtle body, but not enough. Used the air conditioning as temperature was hot. The dream was lucid at some point.
