Someone asked me about meditation and music.

Are these compatible?

Is it better to meditate with or without music?

Which meditation music is the best?

These are personal questions in the sense that what is meditation music to one person, may be a nuisance sound to someone else.

However for higher meditation, (samyama in Patanjali Yoga Sutras) if one finds that when one requires silence, there is music being replayed in the mind, even if that music is choice meditation music, it should be regarded as an impediment.

Any music which overrides the desire for silence in the mind, which shatters silence even when such music is not desired, is undesirable.
