This morning during breath infusion after I was half way through it, I sensed the presence of Swami Muktananda (deceased person) on the astral side. He began to say this:
“Everyone is his favorite, this Dada. Everyone is his special child. But his favor is manifested in the life of one who does the austerities, who turns away from the world and pays attention to the disciplines which he instructs.”
==================
Swami Muktananda was speaking of Siddha Swami Nityananda. According to Muktananda, people in the astral community which Nityananda has at the present time, feel that Muktananda was Nityananda’s favorite disciple when Nityananda was using a material body on earth.
==================
Muktananda also said this:
“I was no more his favorite than any other person who used to be with us in India. What happened is that somehow by his grace and somewhat by my determination to make something out of myself as a yogi, I took his instructions to heart and exposed myself to his harsh hand. I was willing to take harsh treatment from him and so he level with me all the way which gave me the power to complete some very difficult yogic austerities.
“Could I have done it without his help?
Could I have done it like Buddha by sheer determination?
That I do not know.
Maybe, maybe not.
The fact is that due to his harsh hand on me, I did it. His mercy was there for all to take advantage off but those who were afraid of his harshness ran away when they sensed that it would be exhibited. They came back but only when they felt that his soft mood was displayed.”

Okay, well it confirms the need to always have to pay a price somehow, somewhat!
Really very normal though, for ain't nothing for free out there.
Give up, put up or forget you and you're screwed. Get charged and taxed anywhere you go.
You gotta pay so you can get!.. Simple rule of (material) economics.
Money (laksmi)? Personal service (seva)? Plain good old school attitude from the teacher (penance/ tapasya?)..?
The quality and or nature of what you get, for the substance of what you pay is a very different discussion...
