Memory In Meditation Practice

This short video below could be used to study how the human mind operates. For one thing memory is a separate psychic compartment but it has direct access to the part of the mind which shows everything as mental pictures and sounds. This means that there is an involuntary mixing of memory information with currently created information in the mind.

One of my friends who is a member of this forum is Neil Crenshaw. Funny thing is that we are close friends from the time we met once in New York City where Neil was vacationing with his wife, Nancy. Even though we are up in age, still we are friends just as if we were friends all along. Sometimes we have heated arguments but it is like when brothers disagree. They still are brothers anyway.

Neil works with Veterans to help them to overcome stress, particularly combat related stress. A close relative of mine is in Afghanistan right now and he is in the dangers which involve the Muslim reaction to Christian hegemony all over the Arab world.

From the course of current affairs, I can see that the Muslim reaction is reactive without deep thinking, except for some exceptions like recently where the new president of Egypt seems to be thinking in the long ranged interest of these people.

Osama Bin Laden felt that he had to react in some way or the other, but his mode of operation resulted in the eviction of many of his friends and relatives to the astral world, where they are currently thinking over what happened and brooding on how they could come back and fight again.

Unfortunately, material nature is not about right and wrong, it is about who can survive irrespective of right or wrong. In North American, Europeans arrived and met Native peoples and the Europeans happen to be the survivors because of the advantages which nature afforded them.

It can be proven again and again that the way the Europeans confronted those Native peoples was wrong but the fact that nature allowed it to happen, takes the spin out of that idea.

Memory is a separate compartment but it mixes involuntarily into current perceptions as you can gather in this video while hearing this military man describe how he recalled scenes from the Warfield just by hearing the sound of a school bus engine.

So there is this idea that these soldiers can just do meditation and transcend this. The idea is that they can stop the mind from mixing these undesirable traumatic memories.

The idea is that they can do better if they controlled the impressions of the mind.

But really?

Is that it?

Will nature actually allow the soldier to get off the hook that easily?

Jim murdered that man in the apartment because Jim needed money and the man tried to counterattack when Jim approached him. So then after that, Jim was not caught by the police, because you know Jim is a smart guy.

But then every time Jim saw an old man, this memory of the event flashed in Jim’s mind. In fact anytime Jim saw anything which was shaped like that guy’s wallet, Jim remembered the incident vividly.

And then Jim was lucky to find a meditation teacher, because the instructor showed Jim how he could go on with his life without being harassed mentally by those memories.

Wow! Meditation is great!
