Tips for first time astral:

so i've read various threads and articles on astral projection and i'm ready to give it a try... my question is can i reach the astral plane through meditation? because i know i can meditate successfully, but i just wanted to know what would be the next step for me to take while in meditation to astral project?

i read online that you must focus on a point directly in front of you and try to focus your energy into that point... if this is how it’s done, then great i just need to try it now, but if there are other methods please update me.. i've also heard the method where you imagine a rope being tied to your head and pulling your astral self out..

i was wondering which method do y'all recommend for my first time even trying?

MiBeloved’s Response:

In my view meditation is different to astral projection. The whole mental attitude and objective is different. But in very advanced meditation, astral projection might take place even when sitting in difficult postures like padmasana lotus. But astral projecting from an advanced meditation or from a samadhi meditation, after doing yoga and meditation for many years, is not the same as astral projection which we are familiar with on the Internet and which is related to lucid dreaming.

Meditation is an effort to reach a higher state of consciousness while in the material body with the conscious profile one has in the material body. While astral projection is to reach an astral dimension while being separated out of the material body. Meditation is more similar to lucid dreaming than it is to astral projection. In lucid dreaming the dreamer remains slightly aware of the physical body and the astral form remains fused into the physical form. In astral projection the astral form is displaced out of the physical form and the dreamer loses the physical bodily consciousness and finds himself or herself in an astral world.

Even though many Web sites advice that one should will oneself to astral project, it is better to just lay on a hard surface on your back and relax your mind away from the usual anxieties and ideas, and let astral projection take place.

A big ignorance which one has to overcome is the lack of realization that astral projection takes place by the grace of nature every time you sleep. That is a fact. Therefore the real question is: Why you are not aware of that? If you have a body which is say 20 years of age, then it means that you have astral projected at least 20 X 365 times. That is 7300 times. So how many of those 7 thousand time have you remembered?

People go about astral projection practice without understanding this and so they get uptight trying to do something that nature is doing every time they sleep.

It is more about relaxing and developing insight into what nature is already doing and nature is very proficient at it, it is just that nature does not seem to be interested in letting the observing part of the self in on it.
