Measuring Naad with Technological Instruments

Naad is not one frequency but is a blend of various vibrations. If science could measure what they term as the background radiation which is the residual energy resonance from the big bang, that might be regarded as one of the primal frequencies of naad sound.

Physically however we might get some insight into naad by taking a bottle, like a coke bottle, particularly one made out of glass and putting the opening of it to the ear. One will hear a resonance. So how can you get an instrument to measure that? It is a blend of vibrations of the air molecule activity in the bottle.

Again if you take a conch, cut off the narrow tip of it so there is a small opening, and then if you put that to your ear you will hear a very loud resonance. That again is a type of naad. Can you measure that because that is not in anyone’s mind? The conch is something physical and the sound is evident to more than one person, so we can get rid of the idea that it is a person’s imagination, and yet measuring that would be a feat for science.

But science claims that the grey pixels on a blank channel of a TV and the static sounds on a blank channel in a radio are manifestations of the cosmic background radiation.

For the purposes of meditation, naad is a subjective sound heard only by the person within the individual psyche but since each psyche has it, there can be an exchange of information about it from one yogi to another.

The phenomena of dust is present is every house in a city. On any given day, one housewife might call another to report the presence of more dust than usual or of a certain strange color of dust. Then her friends can either affirm or deny the presence of the same substance in their respective houses. In that way, yogis, one to another, can amass subjective evidence which is cross-checked by other ascetics.

==================================

Why then do certain yogis not hear naad?

I can only speak for myself in this regard. Fortunately for me, I used to hear naad since in infancy. Then I assumed that everyone else was hearing naad. Later I understood that this was not a fact. I then took it upon myself to find out why I did not hear naad at all times. I made some studies of it in meditation regarding how I was contacting it but initially since it was happening spontaneously, I could not figure it out. After all if you are doing something indeliberately then it is not always easy to know how you are doing it. How many of us can actually explain how we are walking and maintaining balance? How many of us can actually explain how we remain seated while riding a bicycle? So much of that is reflex which is not directed by our observational directive selves.

I found that I do not hear naad when I am focused into the material world, unless I made a deliberate effort to contact naad during such focus. As soon as my focus into the material world for whatever reason is relaxed, then naad becomes evident. It is like if you have one radio which has a low volume. If you turn on another device which has a loud volume, you will no longer hear the first radio even if it remains on. But as soon as the high volume device is shut down, you will again find yourself hearing the low volume one.

Some years ago I found out a little trick that if I bit down real hard and clenched the upper and lower right jaws where they are hinged near the ear, when I release the pressure, I would hear naad immediately, because my inner mental attention shifts to that part of the subtle body where for me naad gives its steady resonance.

For me naad is rarely all-pervasive. It is not evenly distributed everywhere. It has a specific node usually and infrequently it has two nodes. Once in a while, it will have three nodes and rarely does it seem to be all-pervasive.

This morning during meditation naad had two nodes but these were nodes from two different naad sounds. One was the usual naad which I hear on the right side near the right subtle ear but this time that naad had shifted to the right back of the head.

Then there was another naad sound which was of a lower frequency like it was afraid of the other naad and did not want to be heard by the other naad. It was like when kids speak to each other in a whisper because they do not want their parents to hear.

So this other naad was on the left back side but it was the naad of my individual psyche being heard because I did some bhastrika pranayama practice for about 45 minutes before sitting to meditate.

When I noticed it, I got a telepathic instruction from the psyche of Srila Yogesh which read like this, “Brace into the standard naad and from there keep contact with the local naad. Then pull whatever is in the frontal part to you.”

How to measure this with scientific instruments?

Beats me!
