May 31 Morning Practice-A little scary

Jai Sri Radhe!

My practice started off as usual.  As I started to progress though, I became more aggressive.  I could feel the Kundalini energy but not so forcefully, so i felt comfortable.  Sometimes I will do breath infusion in a particular pose, but stand once I've inhaled and then apply the locks.  I made the mistake of going from a crouched pose (bent knees with hands holding achilles tendon on feet) to then inhaling, standing up and applying the locks.  What I experienced was scary.  Now I remember Yogi Mhadvacarya said not to do this.

I felt the energy, it became overwhelming, then it was like I got lost.....i went down slowly, FORGOT to hold the locks and was shaking uncontrollably.  I did not have any control, sadly.  I could not even remember to hold the locks or what my intention was.  It was like I shrunk and everything else took over.

I have to remember to hold those damn locks!  I am aware of some of the mistakes I made during this session.....still please leave feedback.

Also, i am guessing that as I practice longer and longer & train my body/mind...the locks and intention will become like muscle memory.  Will I just automatically hit those locks every time?

Beverly!

Congratulations. Your practice is very encouraging, it is a joy to witness your progress, and thank you for sharing it.

The type of black out that you experienced is quite common when using the posture you describe and then inhaling and standing up. It has happened to me many times. Alas, since I am a little crazy, every once in a while, I provoke it just to see if the potential is still there. What I had found helpful, in conjunction with applying the locks, is to allow an escape route to Kundalini once it has entered the head. If it can't escape somehow, then a black out (most common), a white out, or a gold out (less common) will occur. The student may see myriad little stars or sparks of light. The sense of I (Ahamkara) is temporarily lost, as the witness becomes temporarily impersonal, thus one will see the surroundings without being able to name objects.

And yes, as the practice continues, the locks become automatic, and, by the way, do not forget the "psychological" lock, meaning Pratyahar in the mind.

Jai Sri Krishna!

The proper way is to remain in the crouched posture after the last inhale and to clamp all the locks in that posture, then to check to see that the mind is centered and is on the lookout inside the body. Eyes should be closed. Then to stand with all the locks applied and nothing released. The neck lock should go into place very tightly and should tighten some more as soon as you stand and the chin pulled back even more again.

As soon as you should shoulder draw-down lock should be applied or applied even tighter.

MiBeloved's Response:

It is not a question of forgetting to hold the locks. In the first place since you shifted out of the crouched posture and the locks were not help before and during the shift, then it means that kundalini began to rise even before this shift occurred or just when it occurred, and you lost control then. You could not have forgotten then to do anything because kundalini knocked the core-self from its default position in the center of the brain consciousness, and being dismissed from the central position, the core self no longer is the director of the buddhi intellect orb, with the result that without being connected to that the core-self cannot control anything and cannot forget anything also because it is just not in touch with its memory chamber and its deliberation capacity.

Kundalini then takes control with a What-Do-I-Care-About-Any-Of-This? attitude. I am here to enjoy. This is even better than sex. This is fun. Who cares if the body falls to the ground?

Be confident that in time you will get a handle on this. Keep practicing. Use the precautions given. Keep posting.

MiBeloved's Response:

The locks will become automatic but you will have to master the mind locks also in time, and then with the locks being applied automatically, you will become more attentive to see what kundalini is doing or is about to do and you will be able to direct it. Study chapter one of the meditation Pictorial book and learn how to get the mind locked down with their introspective practices.

Thanks you, immensely.  I have read through both posts (Alfredo's - Yogi Mhadvacarya's) 3 times now to get a better understanding.  This is heavy stuff.  I will read the books to educate myself.
