Low-quality Spiritual Practice

I got a note from a student today where he spoke of having no dream recall for the past week. This reminds me of a song sung by a singer. The chorus of it was:

No money! No love!

The idea is that if a man does not bring money to his lover, then his lover will be cold-shouldered towards him. Love has to be supported by social upkeep. It is more than making love.

In spiritual practice, one has to invest one’s time and energy if one wants results. If one devotes most of one’s time and energy in materialistic and social concerns, then that is the area from which one will get rewards. In that case one should not expect a paltry irregular spiritual practice to give the desired enlightenment.

Dream recall will be there if one’s mind is not ridden with social anxieties just before resting. If the mind is already worn out by the end of the day, and during the evening before sleeping, then dream recall will be nil. There will be separation of the astral body from the physical one in any case, but from a tired worn-out and emotional condition, the astral body will remain in a drowsy state during the astral projection, which in effect means there will be no observation during that state and a resulting blank memory upon awakening.

Lifestyle affects meditation practice. If I am hell-bent on thinking mostly about my job and my superficial relationship with others, then my spiritual life will be nil.

If there is low-quality spiritual practice, there will be little spiritual insight as a result.
