Looking down into the Body

In doing breath infusion, the student should develop a sense of how much air is required to completely saturate the physical system and the astral body with new energy, changing out the old lingering energy which was used already by physical cells and by subtle energy areas.  Initially it is all about breathing out (kapala bhati) doing the breath infusion rapidly with great force on the outbreath.

Later when one gets used to this, it shifts and one develops a sense that one has to have a certain quantity of fresh energy. One actually feels the need for it and feels the system filling up more and more as one proceeds with a session of the breathing practice.

Looking down in the body is a big deal. One has to train the mind to do that. By nature the visual sense is out to get information about the external environment because the whole idea for being here is to exploit the environment any which way any time. However the disciple performs a pratyahar sensual energy withdrawal practice by looking down into the subtle body while doing the breath infusion.

This is advantageous because if the student becomes proficient at this looking down into the body, over time the visual sense will relinquish its hold on the external environment which is outside of the physical and subtle bodies, and will be attentive to what happens within those forms.
