I have had an interesting third eye experience.
I was chanting and walking and then all of the sudden my whole spine from the bottom rumbled. Next all of this energy shoot up and it felt like someone had touched my forehead...the next sensation I felt was like the skull from the 3rd eye to the back of my head rip in two. What I saw was energy like heat waves bounces all around the room.
Two weeks later I had a similar experience except that it shot up to top of head during kirtan. The top of my head was spinning intensely and then exploded. I saw the whole room get brighter in color, and everyone was ecstatic. Time was gone. I felt like a water fountain.

MiBeloved’s Response:
This is an experience of kundalini rising and overcoming both the brow chakras and the brahmarandra top of head chakra..
These experiences are subjective but they give the person some idea of the kundalini and its effects in the lower part as well as in the head of the subtle body.
In these experiences even though the subtle body remains fused into the physical one, the person becomes about 90% or more aware of the subtle body and 10% or less aware of the physical system.
This type of experience if studied in meditation will lead to an understanding of the various components of consciousness and how they interact.
Where is the core-self while this is happening?
Well that is something which the yogi has to research in trance states.

MiBeloved’s Response:
Head in this case refers to the subtle head but in some experiences, the physical head may mimic the actions of the subtle head. The person in the experience will lose contact with the physical head and may not know if the physical head was involved until after the experience or until others who were present, describe what happened physically.
Usually these experiences happen when one uses mind-altering drugs, and also when there is a flash-back effect from an earlier use of the drugs. In the Sufi tradition, this kind of experience has occurred when the person was listening to or dancing to certain types of music. In the dervish tradition, this is a normal experience of transcendence.
In kriya yoga the outlook on such an experience, is that it is a samadhi practice. If you check Yoga Sutras, you will find descriptions of the various samadhis and you can check through the descriptions to see if your experience is mentioned.
According to a person’s nature, the kundalini can rise suddenly when the person is in certain environment or exposed to certain sensual conditions.
All such states should be meticulously studied in introspection by the yogi, for the purpose of identifying the various levels of existence and their related advantages and disadvantages.
In the yoga practice there is a deliberate effort to reach these experiences. This is done by following the ashtanga process and advancing through the 8 stages.
