The study of the nature, work and influence of kundalini in the body should be one part of meditation practice. This should be done even when one is not doing yoga. Raising kundalini should be done daily, at least once per day. This will cause kundalini to find easy routes through the entire psyche and will give the yogi a chance of becoming familiar with the one psychic energy which controls the creation of material bodies and which itself is the repairing agency in the body.
But besides raising kundalini and observing its spread through the psyche during yoga practice, a yogi must also observe kundalini when it is not aroused by yoga. In other words one has to note how kundalini behaves in the normal consciousness of the body. One should note its habits, its powerful influences over the psyche and its command of the body.
Who is controlling diet? Who is controlling sexual attraction? Is it the core-self or is it kundalini. Who heals the body when it is diseased or wounded?
