Namaste,

Has anyone here had a Kundalini awakening experience? I think I have had one, but I'm not certain, and I'm not sure what to expect next on the path.

Traditionally in Hinduism, there are the seven chakras, and also three knots in three of the chakras: the first is in the Mūlādhāra (root) chakra, the second is in the Anāhata (heart) chakra, and the final is in the Ājñā (third eye) chakra.

Last week I believe, I was doing a certain technique of meditation. Really it was something that I accidentally discovered, and thought to try. Suddenly I felt a great cool sensation at the bottom of my spine. As I continued the technique, it spread up my spine rather strongly, but finally stopped at my Anāhata chakra. It came back several times after that, but did not go higher than the Anāhata chakra.

So, suspecting it might be the Kundalini, and that the knot in the Anāhata might be blocking it, I have been working on unblocking that chakra and allowing it to go through that knot. Wednesday night before bed, I was meditating a few minutes. I did a similar technique, and felt that same sensation. This time, it went what seemed to be all the way up, but I'm not sure if it went all the way, or only to the ājñā chakra. However, I felt this thing come out of my head — I'm not sure how to explain it. Then I felt a great wall of energy all around me. I felt like there was something much larger than I was. I twitched several times from the power, and felt a lot of tingling in my head.

Yesterday morning, I meditated, and went very deep. My breath became very subtle and slow, which usually doesn't happen. Then I again felt very tingly and very light, and it was hard to sit up.

Is this Kundalini? What is to happen next? I've felt it again several times, but I think it is going up to the ājñā chakra. Later that day, I felt like a cool wind coming out of my third eye, and I wasn't even meditating. Then I felt very expansive, like this body was so small, and was not really who I am. I felt like I was in a dream.

Last night and today, quite similar things happened. After I meditated last night, I suddenly had a lot of soreness in several of my muscles around my arms and shoulders. Last night, I again felt a lot of wind in and around me, especially around my eyes, and on the top of my head. I felt a pressure, like this energy was burning through a point near the top of my head; it was so powerful that I wouldn't have been surprised if it would have lifted me up. Again that experience left me in a dream-like state.

I have heard that once the Kundalini unites with the Sahasrāra (crown) chakra, one reaches enlightenment. I'm not sure if this is true, or when it happens. So I'm not really sure what to be expecting next, or what to do to help the process. It was all quite accidental, along with prayers to Kali, a form of Śakti. I'm not sure if traditionally it is when the Kundalini reaches the crown chakra, or when it remains at that point. Even when I'm not meditating, I can usually feel the energy; right now it is around the middle of my head I think, or maybe a bit above.

The thing that has been weird is that a lot of people report it as a fiery energy, but I'm feeling it as a coolness. That's why I'm having the doubts I'm having. Sometimes there are flashes of heat, though.

You are definitely experiencing kundalini. It is experienced as a cooling bliss sensation and sometimes as a ticklish moving sensation.

In relation to it not penetrating the anahat chakra, you could think of it as a sort of force of pressure which opens the chakras. Suppose there is a water line which goes up through a building which has 7 stories. Then unless there is sufficient pressure, the water may only reach the 4th story of the building. As soon as pressure increases it will climb higher.

If you are really interested, learn the various methods of kundalini yoga and then you can develop this in a disciplined way.
