Jai Sri Radhe!
It's a great advantage to read everyone's input, it's not easy to find a similar forum like this one..it is indeed unique.
My session was good, but with the same mistakes. This time when I felt the Kundalini rising, I held the locks tight as ever. This put me at an advantage. However, the last pose caught me by surprise. I had the locks in place, the energy rose and I simply couldn't handle it and went down like jello. What brought me out of the stupor was my air conditioning.... because the sound seemed so loud, like I was in a vacuum, it was distorted sounding.
(In my mind) when I apply the locks, I expect Kundalini to strike...so my escape route (even if faulty) seems to be letting go of the locks. It seems logical at the time, although incorrect.
I did keep my focus internal and made an effort to observe/investigate what was happening and not just let my mind wonder.
I feel as though I should do a mini meditation session BEFORE the breath infusion....to set my intention for the practice.
Sincerely & still learning.

Also, wanted to mention that I worked out at the gym for 45 min, before I did the breath infusion session.

MiBeloved's Response:
The two systems of Western style body toning and Yoga are totally different and have different objectives. The Western system is for the buildup of muscular mass in the body. The yoga system is for the reduction of materialistic interest in the body. The Western system uses the increase in apana, carbon dioxide, while the Yoga system concerns the reduction of carbon dioxide.
There is a yoga system for the increase of carbon dioxide but that is not the system which I teach. In my system the body is made intolerant towards carbon dioxide while in the reverse yoga system the body is made tolerant of it and intolerant of oxygen.
If you read the very end of the Mahabharata there is the story of Duryodhana who was living in the bottom of a lake for weeks without any oxygen. He had mastered the reverse system.
If you work out at the gym, then you will increase and pack in the carbon dioxide and then when you do the breath infusion, that energy will be forced down and around and when it enters sushumna nadi and enters the brain it will cause a black out or zone out because carbon dioxide sponsors a lack of clarity. It sponsors the tama guna inertia mode of consciousness. And it gives a jada samadhi or a trance state in the mode of ignorance.
Something else may happen where all that carbon dioxide may be pulled out of the system but this will take much time, even 45 minutes to do, so in a sense you are being counterproductive by doing gym work out and yoga.
What do you really want to achieve?
If you want to build muscle then drop the breath infusion and stick to the gym. You cannot have and not have something at the same time.
In the breath infusion practice, we are extracting the carbon dioxide and packing in oxygen but in gym activities, the system is to increase and pack in carbon dioxide and other such gases. It depends on what you want to achieve. We are decreasing interest in the physical body. Gym activities increase that interest.
We stretch the muscles and tendon, and when they release the carbon dioxide we extract it and replace it with oxygen, doing that repeatedly to extract all of the carbon dioxide. In gym activities there is also flexing and stretching but to increase the carbon dioxide with decrease in the oxygen.
The air in a gym is machine air or stale air also. Breath infusion should be done outdoor or in a room which has open windows so that there is rapid access to fresh air (non-machine air or stale room air).

Always be on the alert through the whole session from start to finish, because kundalini can rise at any time and not just when you are able to anticipate it. Fact is that you do not know your body as well as you think you do. And you certainly do not understand the kundalini, not just yet. It will take at least three years of practice in your case before you really get some insight into what kundalini is and how it operates.
Most people who drive cars have no idea of the relationship of the various major components in the car, what to speak of the details within each major part, like the engine, the transmission and so on. We use these bodies which were created by the grace of nature and we have little idea about how these bodies operate.

MiBeloved's Response:
If too much of kundalini energy is released you will not be able to withstand it, because right now you do not have that capacity. In other words, if the car is going at 100 miles per hour around a hairpin curve, you will lose control of the vehicle. We have seen drivers take cars around such curves at the Indi 500 but those were super-trained drivers in super-suspension cars. Until your body is improved and until you gain mastery, that will not be possible.
Remember how you were trained with going down after some breaths and not waiting for too large of a buildup of energy.
If you see that if you do many breaths it causes a loss of control, then do less breaths and then do more breaths little at a time. Over time your ability to withstand it, will be achieved but not overnight.

As I was reading Michael's response, I had to stop and think about my cycling, which I took up mid last year, in the hopes of getting out more and keeping the body in shape. I have wondered if by cycling that it builds up carbon dioxide in the legs?
I have never been a guy who does sports and though it would be nice to try something new. I'm still new at cycling and only ride in the park on weekend mornings.
So, is this activity also counterproductive to kriya yoga practice?
MiBeloved 3 years ago
Cycling is counterproductive unless you do it slowly and put in oxygen while you ride, as as to extract the carbon dioxide.
Riding a bike in the traditional way is counterproductive because it causes a large buildup of carbon dioxide in the thighs, legs and feet.

By tuning to the body it is possible to gauge how much apana build up is gotten from a given exercise. The area of the body being worked will tend to become more dense, tense, developed...
Ultimately in the due course of time, one will see for sure how much it affects their practice (to a varying degree depending on the body type).

I've been exercising for over 20 years....i have felt that it has helped me detoxify, build up lung volume capacity of oxygen, and release stress. I guess it's been a way of life for me. I usually exercise outdoors & never do breath infusion in the gym. I will time my exercise session & breath infusion session at different times of day.....and see how I feel & what progress I am making. I'm new at this & will have an open mind.

Beverly,
Jai Sri Krishna,
Please go online and study what happens when the muscles are involved in exercise, as to how they consume oxygen and what they vent as a result. This will give you some insight into what happens when you are in the gym.
Exercises will give physical body benefits.
But in yoga we are interested in the subtle body and in making that body suitable for life in higher dimensions.
