In memory of Yogi S. S. Cohen.

If you visit Ramana Asrama, please do not miss visiting the tombs, inside the asrama, of 2 great souls. They are located towards the center left of the property, one besides the other. They are the tombs of Sadhu Arunachala (Major Chadwick, I will write about him some other time), and S. S. Cohen. In what a beautiful location they are!

S. S. Cohen, an Iraqi Jew, was one of the first non-Indian drawn to Arunachala and Ramana Maharshi. Once he entered the Asrama, a young man, he never left it, and, among other works, wrote the classic "Guru Ramana". I would like to share this passage from his book which have been very influential on my quest for its great wisdom:

"To me in the beginning this was all the more perceptible in the contrast it offered to the hustle and bustle of the life on which I had just turned my back - to the wasted energy, the false values, the foolish expectations from ideals which are in themselves hollow reeds, the dreary intercourse with people with whom one has very little in common; to the social values which have been laid down by many generations of selfishness, convention and superstitions, not to speak of the mess of politics, of rank and wealth, and the bitter jealousy and hatred they breed in the minds of men".
