I Did Not Qualify

In reference to the stage of kundalini yoga practice where I am right now, yesterday, Srila Yogeshwarananda said that such progress should be made at 16 years of age of a body not 60 as in my case.

 

Ideally one should be born in the house of kriya yogis, and then one would begin practice in infancy and by 16 years of age one would have mastered the crazy kundalini life force energy, thus controlling the energies in the psyche.

 

O well, in this life I missed the boat. I did not qualify for an ideal birth as described in Bhagavad Gita:

 

प्राप्य पुण्यकृताँल्लोकान्

उषित्वा शाश्वतीः समाः ।

शुचीनां श्रीमतां गेहे

योगभ्रष्टोऽभिजायते॥६.४१॥

 

prāpya puyaktāllokān

uitvā śāśvatī samā

śucīnā śrīmatā gehe

yogabhraṣṭo'bhijāyate (6.41)

 

prāpya — obtaining; puyaktām — of the performer of virtuous acts; lokān — celestial places; uitvā — having lived; śāśvatī — many, many; samā — years; śucīnām — of the purified person; śrīmatām — of the prosperous person; gehe — in the social circumstance; yogabhraṣṭo = yogabhraṣṭa — fallen from yoga; 'bhijāyate = abhijāyate — is born

 

After obtaining the celestial places where the virtuous souls go, having lived there for many, many years, the fallen yogi is born into the social circumstances of the purified and prosperous people. (6.41)

 

 

अथ वा योगिनामेव

कुले भवति धीमताम् ।

एतद्धि दुर्लभतरं

लोके जन्म यदीदृशम् ॥६.४२॥

 

atha vā yogināmeva

kule bhavati dhīmatām

etaddhi durlabhatara

loke janma yadīdśam (6.42)

 

atha vā — alternately; yoginām — of the yogi; eva — indeed; kule — in the family situation; bhavati — is born; dhīmatām — of the enlightened people; etad — this; dhi = hi — indeed; durlabhataram — difficult to attain; loke — in this world; janma — birth; yad — which; īdśam — such

 

Alternately, he is born into a family of enlightened people. But such a birth is very difficult to attain in this world. (6.42)

 

 

तत्र तं बुद्धिसंयोगं

लभते पौर्वदेहिकम् ।

यतते ततो भूयः

संसिद्धौ कुरुनन्दन ॥६.४३॥

 

tatra ta buddhisayoga

labhate paurvadehikam

yatate ca tato bhūya

sasiddhau kurunandana (6.43)

 

tatra — there; tam — it; buddhisayogam — cumulative intellectual interest; labhate — inspired with; paurvadehikam — from a previous birth; yatate — he strives; ca — and; tato = tata — from that time; bhūya — again; sasiddhau — to perfection; kuru—nandana — O dear son of the Kurus

 

In that environment, he is inspired with the cumulative intellectual interest from a previous birth. And from that time, he strives again for yoga perfection, O dear son of the Kurus. (6.43)

What would be the definition for enlightened people in this case? Just for the sake of analysis, I don't think my parents are "enlightened", but they do have some amazing qualities such as spiritual and non-materialistic for the most part. They might not be "enlightened", but it seems to me that it is the perfect place for me to develop surrounded by an intelligent and understanding brother, sister and parents. There is no other body place of birth, family and era I could have better existed in compared to my life now, it feels to me. But this maybe simply because I do not know enough to know what is best. It is the best that it could have been for my current psychological inclinations, this is certain.

I am not enlightened, I don't even know what the word means as it is tossed and used all over the place so I no longer know what it means anymore.  It appears to me that I am pursuing an intellectual inclination from a previous birth indeed, there are no buts about it, and this is too uncommon to think of it as a trendy idea that I got from some commercial on television.

To understand what Krishna meant by enlightened, please read Bhagavad Gita.

 

In Chapter two of that book there are summary statements which describe the behavior an enlightened person.

 

Actually Arjuna asked Krishna the same question with this wording:

स्थितप्रज्ञस्य का भाषा

समाधिस्थस्य केशव ।

स्थितधीः किं प्रभाषेत

किमासीत व्रजेत किम् ॥२.५४॥

 

arjuna uvāca

sthitaprajñasya kā bhāā

samādhisthasya keśava

sthitadhī ki prabhāeta

kimāsīta vrajeta kim (2.54)

 

arjuna — Arjuna; uvāca — said; sthitaprajñasya — of the person who is situated in clear penetrating insight; kā — what; bhāā — description; samādhisthasya — one who is anchored in deep meditation; keśava — Keśava, Kṛṣṇa; sthitadhī — one who is steady in objectives; ki — whom; prabhāeta — should speak; kim — how; āsīta — should sit; vrajeta — move; kim — how

 

Arjuna said: In regards to the person who is situated in clear, penetrating insight, would you please describe him? Speak of the person who is anchored in deep meditation, O Keśava Krishna. As for the man who is steady in objectives, how would he speak? How would he sit? How would he act? (2.54)

It is important to find out how Krishna and Krishna alone, defined what he meant by enlightened. Try to stay away from hodge podge, quilted and mixed meanings. So that if we are speaking about Krishna, then we use his definitions and if we are speaking bout Buddha we use his. We do not mix them up and then tell people there is only one general meaning which all of these important personalities agree on.

 

Since the statements about rebirth are from Krishna, then we should look to see how he defines enlightenment even if his definition is not the same as ours and even if we just do not buy into what he said.

Ok, so I have to get to chapter 2 of Baghavad Gita at some point.

I ran into this in Chapter 4 of the meditation pictorial:

 

The wise man, who is dedicated to achieving liberation, whose sensual energy, mind and intellect are controlled, whose desire, fear and anger are gone, is liberated always (Bhahavad Gita 5.27-28)

 

This comment reminded me of experience #446. In extremely short, the refusal of a sexual seduction moments later changed into the most beautiful place I've ever seen in ALL, I mean ALL my experiences in the astral realms. I was reading on the psyche today, was very interesting, I will post some quotes on this subject.

 

Interesting stuff.

The wise man, who is dedicated to achieving liberation, whose sensual energy, mind and intellect are controlled, whose desire, fear and anger are gone, is liberated always (Bhahavad Gita 5.27-28) I feel this verse talking about IBE ( In Body Experience ), like Gautama says Love yourself and watch-today, tomorrow, always. This verse of Gita make me feel related with Gautama Buddha watch inside's progress.
