The Brahma Sutras begins something like this:
athato brahma jijnasa
which suggests that now (athato) that one has reached the human form of life, after transmigrating in lower species for millions of years, one should inquire (jijnasa) about spiritual existence (brahman).
The contention suggested is that one does not know how long one will remain in the human species which is a special opportunity which one can cash in on for a limited time. Not knowing how long fate will permit the manifestation of human forms on the physical level, and realizing that if one does not have access to such a form, one cannot make spiritual inquires (brahma jijnasa), one should dig up and get moving focusing on the spiritual reality.
As fate put out the lights of certain species long ago and as the probability of those species showing up again on this earth, is far from likely, so one should know that once the human species is cancelled as a life-product by material nature and the inscrutable time factor, it may be millions of years again before such an opportunity would arise.

Then it would seem that Human Beings are a unique species with a unique power and opportunity not shared by other life on the planet. Right? In that case, I think that we should be worried.
Is there a suggestion somewhere that might indicate that some Spiritual Beings who are headed to become humans might have participated in the design of such animals and therefore might have an intimate knowledge of them in another way?

Vedic sources seem to confirm this as well. There are several animal form avatars. For instance, Kurma Divine Tortoise, Matsya Divine Fish and Hansa Divine Swan.
There are even hybrid creatures which were avatars, like Narasingha Divine Leonine-Human and Hayagriva Divine Aquiline-Human.
