How Kundalini Leaves the Body at Death

During breath infusion this morning Swami Rama came and was discussing how a yogi should handle the psyche when the physical body is on the verse of dying. He said this:

Many of these meditation people in the West have no idea of what to do when death comes. Their idea is that it will be all good since they will merge into the Absolute or go to an astral paradise, but that is not the way of the yogis. For yogis we have to know what kundalini will do before the time of death and then we can either go along with kundalini’s method or try to resist it or even try to force it to do something else.

Some persons think that God will make it good for them at the time of death and that He will compensate their deficiencies but this idea is only as good as what God did in terms of preventing their material body from disease.

So if we accept that there is a God, then if that God will help you in your subtle body at the time of death, what is your explanation as to why that God does nothing to adjust the diseased condition of your physical body as it approached its death? Has that God said that he will fix your subtle body’s condition at death even though he admitted no care for the physical body in that way? Let us be real with these issues.

Kundalini is the single element which controls what will happen at death, regarding where the individual soul will transit to. The condition of kundalini and its condition alone determine that.

When the body gets to an elderly stage and when the functions of it begin to deteriorate, kundalini uses one standard method which is to close down one part of the body after another, beginning with the extremities. Even parts of the brain are closed down. It is like when a person is about to go to sleep at night, and then he turns off the lights one by one and leaves a small lamp bit in the bedroom. So kundalini does this by shutting down various functions and various organs one by one.

A yogi should take note of this and should not, like modern people, take medication which affords one the luxury of not knowing what kundalini is doing.

The student yogis like all other human beings are usually forced to just go along with kundalini when death is near and this means focusing on the one or two major health defects in the system at that time. This health defect serves as gateways to the afterlife for kundalini. But an advanced yogi should not use such easy gateways because they lead to lower astral planes and to haphazard incidental rebirths in which the person has no idea what will happen and how things will turn out in the next life.

Kundalini at first begins to close itself off down in the base chakra. It begins to shut down all exit points or sensual orifices. This is experienced as blindness in the eyes, lack of hearing in the ears, insensitivity or numbness in the skin, lack of taste in the tongue, lack of sharp sense of smell in the nostrils.

This is like when a king who governs a large territory begins to lose control and is attacked by challenging rulers from other places, at that time the king begins to build a central fort in his territory. The idea is that he can be barricaded from his rivals and live in peace behind the walls of a stockade.

Unfortunately his rivals, who went away when he first did that, return with siege engines and battering-rams. They begin to pound his city walls and to stop all travel from within the city.

Hearing the constant threat of the rivals and being aware that his end might be near; this king then plans to escape from the city, which was designed to protect him but which became a trap for him.

At last when the energy breaches the city wall, the king himself in disguise tries to escape through the same breach which his enemies made in the city wall.

Kundalini is just like this in that it tries to leave at death through the main disease which kills the body. Say for instance, that it is tuberculosis, then kundalini will leave through the lungs. If it is a venereal disease, then it will leave through the genitals, if it is constipation or diarrhea, it will leave through the anus. If it is Alzheimer’s, it will leave through the malfunction cells which caused that. If it is heart failure it will leave through the faulty heart valve.

A yogi must however try to get kundalini to take a different course at the time of death so that it does not travel along the lines of the terminal disease which the body will have.
