Guru Connect is about being in touch with a yoga guru in relation to following the instructions for breath infusion practice and meditation session. Connection to the instructions is itself connection with the guru but the execution of the instructions is the key connection point.

Initially a student should have confidence in this connection-by-practice method of association.

Does this mean that the guru has to be a woman if the student is a man and that the guru has to be a man if the student is a woman?

Is it easier if the guru is of the opposite sex and there is an attraction between the two?

The first yoga couple we hear about who were sexually connected was Lord Shiva and Goddess Durga. Except that when Lord Shiva taught yoga to the goddess she was inattentive and did not listen to a word of what he said. It was on that occasion that the fish who later became known as Matsyendranath heard the whole technique of kriya yoga.

This shows that sexual attraction between a spiritual master and a student does not necessarily facilitate learning of yoga, even in the case of the supernatural rulers who are by far more intelligent than mere human beings.

In the many years using this body when I had to take instruction from invisible yoga-gurus, I have had instructions for a total of maybe 12 days in all of those years from 1967 to now. And still I made progress. In those 12 days there was no sexual relationship with the female yoga-guru. It was a purely student disciple relationship and nothing else with the female yoga-guru being an authority and not a lover or beloved.

Thus the idea that a spiritual relationship is accelerated when there is sexual love bettween the yoga guru and the student does not hold up in most cases. Love between the gopis and Krishna was there but there is little evidence in the Bhagavata Purana that the gopis were spiritually accelerated because of it. Later on after the study of Krishna happened, then people began to say there was an acceleration based on paramour (girlfriend-boyfriend unmarried conjugal love) between the gopis and Krishna, but we hear that when the gopis were visited by Uddhava who was to instruct them about Krishna, those gopis were insubmissive to Uddhava and had something to say to him about the faults of Krishna’s attraction to them.

Uddhava’s mission as their guru was stymied because of the love resentments they had towards Krishna.

The point is that the instruction from a yoga-guru for practice is accelerated by the instruction-connect only and nothing else. If the student has the connect there will be progress and the connection into the psyche of the guru will be activated.

It has nothing or very little to do with sexual love. It did not have it for the Goddess Durga so we do not see how it will have it for others. It did not serve the purpose for the gopi. In fact it made them hostile to getting spiritual realization from Krishna, so we do not see how it can be proven otherwise.

Thus there is no excuse especially for male students of male yoga guru not to make progress. The males should make the most progress, by the very reason of the lack of sexual attraction.

When Krishna instructed Uddhava in the Uddhava Gita, Uddhava resisted Krishna every step of the way but still near the end of the discourse, Uddhava yielded and listened and decided to comply with the instruction. But the gopis never yielded. Their conjugal love for Krishna actually retarded their ability to absorb spiritual methods of practice from Krishna.
