You can believe what you like, I told you it like it is based on direct astral experience and much going back through past lives of myself and others. You do not have to have faith in what I say.
A disease on the astral side is carried forward in the subtle body as a subtle impression or samskara. It does influence the formation of the new embryo in the womb and remains there to manifest as if it is a time bomb which was set to go off at a certain age of the new body. Yes, the new genetic influences from the new parents do also figure in but they do not eliminate what that particular soul who will be the child is bringing as a samskara (predisposition) from the past life.
The other thing you are overlooking is that the soul to be born as the child of Mr. X influences that father and that mother and changes their psyche to a limited degree. This is experienced even physically where some women when they become pregnant stop eating their favorite foods and begin to eat completely different things and that is based on the needs of the soul who is in their psyche to take a body and who expresses a very strong influence. Sometimes such women even become hostile or very friendly based on the influence of the infant in their psyche.

Anyway I will answer in brief:
There is only one astral body. The terms etheric, astral and subtle pertain to one subtle body only but these terms are used according to the vibrational level of that one subtle body. It is not three separate bodies but three or more phases of the same subtle form.
First we have to begin with a soul on the astral plane who is to take a body. That person is using an astral body and has nothing else, meaning that he or she has no physical form. With only a subtle body, that person perceives the subtle body of both dead people and living people, of both other ghosts and those who are using physical forms. But on seeing the physical people, that person only sees, only perceives, their subtle forms. The astral person does not see the physical bodies but still that person feels attracted to physical persons and enters into the forms of living people. This means entry into the subtle body of one of those persons. Once that departed soul is fused into the feelings of one of those persons, a body as an embryo becomes possible.

While living a person has primarily two bodies, the physical one which is socially involved here and the astral or subtle one which is used in dreams and astral projections. At death the person is left with the subtle one only and loses the physical one along with its privileges. So what is that subtle body? It is all what is mental, emotional and psychological of the said person. At death that combination of mental, emotional and psychological energy is seen in a form as subtle body. And it is the same form the person used all along in dreams during the sleeping phases of the physical body.
People always ask if anyone has died and come back and nowadays we have Near Death Experiences and the like, but actually we experience death every time the physical body sleeps especially as dreams and astral projections. In an astral projection the person’s subtle body fuses back into the physical form, you can say that it merges into it if you prefer that word. While at death there is no more fusion. One is left out in the astral world and cannot reclaim the physical body and its privileges. So every night we are dying and returning but we do not understand that this is what it is. Death is there on a nightly basis as dream and astral experiences or as just plane unconsciousness.
This same combined psychological force of a deceased person, which is the form of the subtle body, is used again as the basis for the new body which forms as an embryo but first it has to fuse into a parent’s body and then by taking help from the life force of the parent it gets a physical form.
The value of the life force of the parent is that it has physical energy under its influence something which the departed soul no longer has because of losing the last body.
For rebirth one has to enter into the psyche of a parent. Once that is done, one fuses into the feelings of that parent, if that person has a body which can reproduce one may get an embryo. It is done by nature however and not by planning. Nature operates it with ease. It is a psychic nature process.
