FEAR

Michael, what is fear from a yoga perspective? You are the most fearless person I know, is this quality acquired through the practice or through looking at things with a certain point of view?
I would say that the life force is involved, since if your life is in danger your survival instincts will kick in and might trigger the sensation of fear in order to make you run away from a harmful situation.
But what about feeling afraid of what the future may bring...is the life force still involved?

Que pasa Carlos?
Allow me to entertain you before Michael comes on stage to address this very thoughtful question.
I'd say that you are right: fear is an expression of the life force as part of its primary role of supposedly guaranteeing survival.
But ultimately I'd say that it's just a scheme to keep us conditioned in a vain endeavor. It is relative to our environment, that we as a vessel result from.
We as an essence have no future, present nor past. The more we realize this through faith and tallied conviction from direct experience, the less relevant the might of the energy of fear over our live-times. In that sense naturally Michael is most fearless, he is not limited or dependent on this environment the way I am.
Should I also somehow manage to secure a loftier, more durable, more secure dwelling elsewhere, then I am likely to stop expressing anxiety and concerns over the house I live in now. The life force does the bidding of the original body (not the initial) by creating this preoccupation over the environment as it subdues the intellect into accepting such by a process of rationalization.
Fear becomes a built in mechanism as the expression of an essential energy that drives the divine essence further and farther away from its source. But it is only virtual, I'd like to think.

Fear concerns the life force, as you stated because that is the mechanism which is involved in survival. There are two parts to it. One is that once you are not the top predator then you have to be fearful of being eaten in one way or the other. The second part is that even if you are in the species of top predator, then if you are not at the apex of that species, you also have to fear being eaten, as in the case of alligators or snakes which on occasion eat their own kind after a fight to the finish. The term eaten also means being exploited in any way.
There is a ghastly scene in the Bhagavad Gita in the vision of the Universal Form where Krishna bit, tore into, scorched and did such things to people who were opposed to his way of social relations. In this world, right now, we have so many lecturers and authors who are abolishing fear with their messages that there is no need to fear anything but in the Bhagavad Gita in the apparition, Arjuna got fearful of Krishna.
In part, we do kriya yoga because we are fearful of what would happen which would be out of our control and not in our interest at the death of the present body. Who knows where you will go or what will really happen on the supernatural level? We have some idea of what death is like on the natural level, either a calm death or a violent one. But we have little information about what happens on the psychic plane. So lack of knowledge is an indication about the possibility of fear.
For kriya yoga, we are motivated by this fear as well and so we make some attempt to get a handle on the supernatural.
There is no point in pretending that you are the Absolute or that you are one with it, when in fact, that is sheer imagination. Miniscule atomic part of this, part of that, part of the whole, part of the absolute, part of the Galaxy is still not the whole and still cannot possess the whole. We have to face that and live with it but if we can somehow get into a better position in relation to that whole, then we should strive for it.

I would like to re-state the following quotes from Surya and Michael.
----------------
is relative to our environment, that we as a vessel result from.
We as an essence have no future, present nor past. The more we realize this through faith and tallied conviction from direct experience, the less relevant the might of the energy of fear over our live-times.

Jettins Response:
To me the fear of being eating by an animal or being in eminent danger is very real but it stays in the physical system. My fear of the future in general seems to stay in the physical system, but then again I don’t feel I have good reason to fear the future. The future in the astral does not scare because I’ve seen a small part of that, so far. The astral for me has a calming effect in general but I can still get worried.
