Ego in the Astral World

At the end of the meditation session, my subtle body separated out of the physical form all of its own accord. This happened even though I sat to mediate. Usually astral projections occur while the body is lying or is in a reclined position. However if one sits to meditate regularly, there will be astral projections while the body is sitting even.
For a student these projections from a sitting position is a sign of some advancement. By sitting I mean sitting without reclining, sitting on a hard surface, not a cushioned one. When this happens it means that the awareness of the subtle body has increased sufficiently for the student to begin integrating his or her identity over into the subtle body.
For most people identity has to do with the physical body or with the ego which is part of the physical body as they consider it to be. Besides this they feel they have no identity or that it is all void without identity if it is not the physical body. A yogi, who experiences astral projection regularly, will experience a shift of his identity to the subtle body.
Instead of having the approach to life that:
This physical body is me, my ego. As soon as this body is done my ego will be no more.
The student will have this alternate attitude:
This physical body is a utility through which I can express myself into the physical world. As soon as this physical body is done, my ego will be transferred permanently to the subtle body. I will then be limited to that astral existence by the subtle body which will then be the only means of expression for my ego.
When I astral projected, I was barely aware of the transit. Barely here means about 10 % out of 100% objectivity. I found myself to be in Guyana in South America on the astral side of a location where the mother of my body once lived. She left her body about ten years ago and has not taken an embryo.
She created a house in that astral parallel world. She had plans for my brother and me to live in the residence. Everything was set up exactly how she was living before passing from her old body.
With her old desires intact in her subtle form, she is compulsively trying to live out her physical desires in the astral world. Some other relatives were there. I do not even know some of these persons at least not by their astral appearance. But they were happy to see me at her place. They engaged in various plans of how they could live together as one family in that astral place.
Silently I considered how neurotic the whole thing was.

I think my subtle body in a sense is learning to time travel, dimensional travel and what not, does this mean I would retain the abilities I think I have after I die? This is incredibly good news.

living in small communities indeed. It appears to me that they feel inclined to do what they know, and if they don't know anything will settle with being in company. They also physically appeared to be culturally different people. I have a few of these experiences that I base my temporary conclusion, but I will only list one here as it describes it best.
In experience #519 from March 29, 2012 called, "An Oasis for lost souls”. I find myself arriving in a very small gated community of about 15 people. Everything outside the community looked like a deserted construction zone. The part in quotation is what someone said. I wrote the following thoughts about that place after waking up:
They stay in small groups because, "it’s very scary out there, you don’t know what you will find". You have to realize that in a mind that is psychologically lost, things will look like a wasteland, like there is no hope, finding a group of like-minded people would be like finding an oasis. Feeling that what they might find out there is scary; they stay in a small collective reality for mutual support.

MiBeloved's Response:
Astral projection can happen from a sitting position, even a sitting position like the yoga padmasana lotus posture. Astral projection also would occur if you are reclined fully or partially on a couch (sofa).
In my case, it occurred from sitting in lotus due to the fact that I practiced that for many years and my mind’s anxiety mechanism has come to regard that posture as no big deal. In other words the reason why astral projection does not occur except in a fully reclined position is that the mind enters an anxiety about the body in other positions.
For instance a person, who sleeps on the streets near garbage cans and other questionable place, can also sleep near a toilet. A person who is drunk from liquor can sleep everywhere. When I was using a kid’s body, some of my elders used to send me on payday to find my father. Sometimes he would be laying down sleeping by a urinal in a bar. The guy was out cold and did not give a dam that he was in such a place.
So the attitude of the mind in relation to posture is what dictates in which pose one can astral project from. My mind has gotten used to the lotus posture, so it easily releases the kundalini energy from having a fear about it and so astral projection occurs.
This was an achievement because initially say around 1971 when I first began to do that posture, it was painful and uncomfortable and my mind was in a hurry to take the body out of that pose. Then I could not astral project from it. I used to always lie on my back to astral project at that time.
A yoga teacher named Yogeshwarananda has insisted that I sit in lotus. Before that there was a time when I was eager to do it but over time I realized that it does not make one into a yogi. Merely buying an expensive pair of running shoes, will not make anyone an Olympic champion. When I realized that I decreased the practice of lotus posture. But one of my yoga gurus set down a rule like this:
“Do the lotus every time just after you do breath infusion? That is my order. Do not question it. Just do it. It is a requirement in these disciplines.”
Just from following that advice, I found that I was astral projecting in that posture. At first when it happened, I was mildly surprised. In fact when I came back from the astral projection, it was then that I realized that the subtle body was released from the physical form while the physical one sat in that posture. I thought that it was a rare thing but then it kept happening again and again and I got the idea, that perhaps the mind had lost its fear of the posture.

MiBeloved's Response:
Yes it means that you would retain the abilities. Check Bhagavad Gita, where Krishna speaks about your mental profile at the time of death and how it dictates what will happen to you next, which means that you will persist with those tendencies after leaving the physical form.
See these verses:
yaṁ yaṁ vāpi smaranbhāvaṁ
tyajatyante kalevaram
taṁ tamevaiti kaunteya
sadā tadbhāvabhāvitaḥ (8.6)
yaṁ yam - whatever; vāpi = va — or + api — also; moreover; smaran — recalling; bhāvam — texture of existence; tyajaty = tyajati — abandons; ante — in the end; kalevaram - the body; taṁtam - that that; evaiti = eva - indeed + eti — is projected; kaunteya - O son of Kuntī; sadā - always; tad — that + bhāva — status of life + bhāvitaḥ — being transformed
Moreover, whatever texture of existence is recalled when a person abandons his body in the end, to that same type of life, he is projected, O son of Kuntī, always being transformed into that status of life. (8.6)
śarīraṁ yadavāpnoti
yaccāpyutkrāmatīśvaraḥ
gṛhītvaitāni saṁyāti
vāyurgandhānivāśayāt (15.8)
śarīraṁ — by body; yad — which; avāpnoti — he acquires; yat — which; cāpi — and also; utkrāmatīśvaraḥ = utkrāmati — departs from + īśvaraḥ — master; gṛhītvaitāni = gṛhītvā — taking + etāni — these; saṁyāti — he goes; vāyuḥ — wind; gandhān — perfumes; ivāśayāt = ivā — just as + āśayāt
Regardless of whichever body that master acquires, or whichever one he departs from, he goes taking these senses along, just as the wind goes with the perfumes from their source. (15.8)

I have an old used recliner that I bought at a garage sale to do astral projection, but it’s just sitting there now. I’ve only used it to do astral projection. I’ve stopped using it because experiences became so conscious I became afraid of it. I am not afraid to use it anymore, but I will wait a little longer to start using it again until I sort out more things.

This and the information from another of your posts is re-enforcing my thoughts that things happen the way they do for a reason. Great news!
