Practice Report 3-28-13

7:45am

All Hail and Glories to an Axis Supreme

Jai Gurudeva Yogi Madhvacharya

Jai Mata Lakshmi

Practice began at 4am with 45 mins asana and bhastrika.

Meditation followed with some success in awareness of a dark, blank thoughtless state of mental non fluctuation after several minutes of sorting through dream like thoughts.

To begin meditation when Michael was here he played a chime for the first couple minutes.

I have a singing bowl that i use to initiate the meditation that seems to create the same instigation of the naad sound, like a conveyor belt that streamlines you right into the awareness of the frequency.

“The human body is designed for Naad Yoga. The ears are designed to carry the exact pattern and frequency of sound vibration which is funneled through the outer ear and strikes the eardrum, creating a perfect replica of that vibratory rate and frequency. This vibration is then transferred to the three bones of the inner ear, and then to the inner ear canal and its mechanism, and then directly to the neuro-endocrine systems of the brain and physical body. By meditating deeply (sunia) on the primal sounds—sacred mantra and poetry (Gurbani), we can experience a profound awakening of human potential.”

Kripamaya was along for practice this morning.

After exercises and meditation we read from the Anu Gita and shared discussion.

Im grateful for his insight into this important part of the whole story.

Breakfast meal taken at 8am of lentils, broccoli, green beans and carrots.

Jai Shri Shri Krishna-Balarama

MiBeloved's Response:

Singing bowl or even a gong can be used for this purpose, but the catch here is that one should not do this when meditating alone. Do this only when teaching students and for the benefit of the students with the teacher’s loss of some vital time of the practice.

Why is it used with students?

Any thoughts or images, any naturally spaced-out or tense energy in the mind chamber, may come to order through the sound produced, which will help the student to settle down in the meditation and keep on track with whatever practice that student is recommended to do.

But the flip side of this is that the teacher looses the first 3 to 5 minutes of meditation because instead of tuning in to the naad sound and the higher frequency energy of the psyche which is due to the breath infusion, the teacher looses that period. Thus when meditating alone the teacher should not use a gong.

In other words, don’t try to be a student and a teacher at the same time and don’t get any crazy ideas about how being a teacher causes the teacher to advance. It does happen on occasion that a teacher benefits from teaching but usually this is not the case.

At least the benefit is not spiritual progression even though it may be that there is a benefit in teaching when one is asked to teach by a certain yoga guru, where that authority rewards one in some way for that service.

Please see this chart with its explanation below:

Subtle body energy chart

The grey portion of the chart shows what happens energy-wise in the subtle body of the yogi. With each breath infusion sequences, there is a charge of pranic subtle energy which accumulates to a peak point or spike. Then the student ceases the rapid breath either on an inhale or exhale (usually on an inhale). Locks are applied and the energy is compressed further and is distributed through the subtle body in various parts according to the posture assumed during the rapid breathing. As soon as the energy is distributed the student may be slightly depressed or lowered from the spike level attained.

Then the student will keep doing this until there is a peak charge in the subtle body rising to point (a) which represents the maximum charge.

The student then sits to meditate immediately after and takes advantage of this peak charge but the teacher who is ringing the gong, loses out on this and cannot during the ring of the chime, focus fully on the effects of the charge.

On the chart on the brown side of it, from point (a) to (b), the students get the benefit of the high charge and the chime/gong sound assist them to keep the focus, otherwise some of them might drift off to a lower plane missing out on the charge.

The chime/gong is run for about 3 to 5 minutes and during that time the teacher is not focused on the energy. The teacher may begin meditation at point (b) and make the best of it, having lost the vital and most important period which is from (a) to (b).

=======================

We observe that in some cases, mothers become malnutritioned because of nursing their infants. The infants do well, while the mother pines away. In yoga this may happen to a careless teacher who becomes so occupied teaching that he or she neglects individual practice and forgets all about being a student under his or her teacher.

This does happen.

Thanks Michael~~~I did feel that I was losing some meditation time.

I'll not neglect my individual practice for certain.  Years ago I was that teacher, but in time I've become more self-ish which has helped progression.

Thank you for that chart, it makes perfect sense.

You are right though that I am doing it so that consistency would be kept not for myself, but the other meditator.

For me naad is always present and the bowl/chime/gong can be an unnecessary component.

If meditator(s) who wanted to become aware of naad didn't have access to a sound devise, can Aum-ing several times be an alternative?

Om if done correctly as three syllables of A-U-M where the M sound is completely nasal where the a sound begins in the front part of the mouth, the u sound is in the middle part and the m sound moves progressively to the back and then up into the head, will result in reaching naad as soon as the chanting stops, at least for most people if they are keen to hear it on occasion.

For those who do not hear it, they may not find naad sound but they will however get the benefit of less thought/images in the mind.
