In the astral world, Srila Yogeshwarananda challenged me yesterday with this question:
Can the deity or yoga-guru permanently clean up the psychology of the devotee or disciple?
My answer to this was that it could not be done. Then he asked for reasons to support my reply.
I said this:
In the first place the deity or yoga-guru if they have any power in the life of the devotee or the disciple, should cause the follower to become empowered so that he or she can clean up the psyche.
It does not make sense that the deity or guru should do the cleaning. The real gift from a deity or guru is empowerment to overcome the unwanted aspects of the personal psyche of the follower.
Why should the deity or the yoga-guru not empower the disciple like that? Why should the disciple remain as a weakling who cannot perform self-reform and self-inself clean-up?
Okay, then I have another argument about this in reverse, which is that if the deity or yoga-guru does purify the disciple, with the disciple not doing anything in the matter, the way a mother cleans her helpless infant, then the only way that would be serviceable is if the authority can isolate the disciple, so that the disciple cannot under any circumstance attract to the psyche unwanted energies.
This would mean that the deity or yoga guru would have to isolate that disciple from all times and places in which that disciple might contact unwanted energies.
However I do not see that this is possible, that the deity or yoga-guru will or even can do that.
My feeling is that the deity or yoga guru’s tasks begins and ends with causing empowerment in the life of the disciple, so that the disciple has the insight, method and effective techniques to bring about the required adjustment in the psyche.
