I had the occasion to send this mantra to someone today:
oṃ muni muni mahāmuni śākyamuni svāhā
=================================
This mantra is specific to the current Lord Buddha, that specific person who became known as Shakyamuni (Shaa ki a moon ee), because of having taken birth in the Shakya clan in Nepal.
Muni means an accomplished yogi philosopher.
Mahamuni means a great or the greatest of the accomplished yogi philosophers.
Om is the opening invocation of most valid sanskrit mantras. It means that the person is in the effort of linking with the spiritual level of existence.
Svaha is used in fire ceremonies (havan/yajna) mostly at the end of an offering to a specific deity.
For example: Om Indraya Svaha means that you just offered some article to the deity Indra and then as you offer the last item which is ghee you say svaha.
Roughly translated the Shakyamuni mantra would mean this
Putting myself in touch with the spiritual level (Om),
I recognise the philosopher yogi (muni)
who is a special philosopher yogi (muni)
who is the greatest of the philosopher yogis (mahamuni)
who is specifically the philosopher yogi who took birth in the Shakya dynasty (Shakyamuni)
I submit my life in offering to him (svaha)
