Breath Infusion with Internal Focus

It is absolutely vital for success in doing pranayama practice, that one focus internally to see what is happening in the subtle body. If you do not experience a subtle body, then when you do pranayama practice you should keep track of the inner feelings of your physical system, as well as the mental and emotional energies of your consciousness.

Pranayama is the 4th stage of yoga, listed just before the 5th stage which is pratyahar sensual energy withdrawal. The hint there is that pranayama should develop into sensual energy withdrawal if it is done proficiently. That should be the result of it, just as if you are on a stairway, as you step up from one thread to the next, you will rise from one to the other in a set sequence.

For this to take place on a consistent basis the breath infusion should be done with emphasized focus in the subtle body.

Subtle body?

What is that?

The subtle body is the body used in realistic dreams. It is also called the astral form.

If a student has no astral experiences, then obviously the idea of the subtle body is something of an abstraction. For that person the subtle body is the emotions and mental process. Breath infusion should be done with focus within the emotional and mental energies.

The pursuit of realities which are outside of the subtle body, beyond the emotional and mental energy field, outside the individual’s mental and emotional content, should be suspended during the breath infusion practice.

The same interest energy which is used for pursuing objects of interest which are outside of the physical body, should be used to observe and discover what is in the emotions and mental process of the psyche.

This inner observation is to be done only during breath infusion? This topic interests me since I'm one of those students who have no astral experiences.

The interest energy is to be internalized at other times especially during meditation after doing the breath infusion, and then this will gradually feed into the lifestyle of the yogi to where his or her interest in the external physical and external astral worlds will decrease, so that even while interacting he or she will not pay attention to most of what happens on the physical plane, in the social dealings with worldly people and persons involved sincerely in puppy-love.

People sometimes harrow and hawk after such a yogi, stating that he does not listen, does not pay attention to anything, has no genuine concern for anyone but himself and so on, all because they sense that he has withdrawn his interest into what is of the greatest concern to them, which are social dealings in the puppy-love universe of material existence.

The stress on doing this during breath infusion is there because if this is applied efficiently there, then it will feed into all aspects of the yogi’s lifestyle, so that even when he or she is engaged in worldly affairs and giving full attention to that, still within, his interest energy is withdrawn from the habit of feeding on the substance of the puppy-love universe.

A yogi has to be so expert to escape from the confinement of the puppy-love agents that he or she gives them full attention, while on the spiritual level, gives them no attention at all.

A yogi is very careful to serve materialistic people, relatives and friends with great care when he is with them, but as soon as providence releases him from their grip, he relinquishes the interest in taking care of them and runs away to yoga practice and to spiritual associations.

If a yogi refuses to serve faithfully and sincerely in the puppy-love universe as stipulated by providence, then he will be inconvenienced in the future when those to whom he owns services file complaints with the Universal Form of Sri Krishna. Krishna is not going to do anything to compensate for the services received by the yogi from the puppy-love people. That means that the yogi will be inconvenienced if he fails to pay back the obligations. Therefore it is in his interest to give quality time to the puppy-love citizens but that does not mean that he should really withdraw himself from the spiritual associations while doing that.

There are two types of families, the spiritual and the puppy-love types. In some instances my relationship in the puppy-love world to someone runs exactly parallel to the one I have with the same person on the spiritual level. And still this does not mean that I should mistake one of these for the other, because if I do, it will tell on me whereby I will lose the spiritual and gain the animal love all to my detriment.

Thus I have to constantly practice the withdrawal of the spiritual interest from the material existence so that I can be sure to recognize the segregated spiritual concern and not mistake it for the puppy-love honey.

MiBeloved's Response:

No astral experience, no dream recall, means simply that you are a materialistic person at heart despite your spiritual interest. If a person has spiritual interest and pursues it ardently but finds still that there is no astral experience and no psychic perception, then that means that the spiritual interest is superficial.

This does not mean that the person is not sincere in spiritual pursuits. He or she might be, but still their essential psyche is basically materialistic. The conscious observing self may be determined to pursue spiritual life, and the subconscious body of the person which has a huge impact, may be materialistic, in which case, the subconscious will govern what happens and will be sure that the spiritual interest remains on the periphery of the psyche and does not penetrate into it deeply.

The yogi who is in this predicament really has to dig down inside and shake up some energies in the sub consciousness to get it to change its profile.

Who is to blame for this condition of the subconscious?

Nature is, subtle material nature, because that is its basic operation where it makes everything spiritual subservient to its materialistic needs.
