Breath Infusion Lapse

I made an observation during the breath infusion session this afternoon. This was that for a student, it is sufficient if he or she can get the infused breath energy to reach the bottom of the trunk of the body. That itself is an accomplishment.

Beginners usually master infusion to the navel. Those who go further are able to push the energy down pass the navel into the pubic area. Others are able to cause it to arch across from the pubic are to the base of the spine. And yet others gain mastery in causing it to arc to the base and then go upwards.

This however will not give one a yoga siddha body. But those preliminary accomplishments are an achievement in itself because usually the kundalini encourages the entity to not fuss with breath infusion since by doing so one might luck out in material achievements, lose one’s status in the material world and become a nobody. How will one get a college degree, a decent job, a fair shake at a comfortable retirement and so on, if one gives up one’s concerns and loses all ambition in the social world?

If one wants to be a champion athlete, one should try to increase the body’s tolerance for carbon dioxide (apana – Sanskrit). When this is increased one can excel at sports. But for gaining a yoga siddha form, this will be counterproductive. It all depends on what one wants to achieve.

People who are excelling at keeping the material body fit for strenuous sports are achieving that but they won’t get a yoga siddha body in that way. For a yoga siddha form one has to efficiently remove the carbon dioxide drawing all of it out of the body, so that none of it or a very negligible amount is in it. But such yogi will not get status in the material world. Material nature will not reward such persons with opportunities for status living. And if it does do so, then such yogis, if they take the opportunities will give up the strict practices and take up more easy going process of yoga which are approved in the status world.

If one is dong breath infusion twice per day, and then one stop doing this for say a week, when one begins the practice again one will notice that one has to work harder and for a longer time to refill the system with the infused energy. It will seem that the system has accumulated the negative energy (carbon dioxide).

I experienced this today. For the last week my practice was sporadic. This afternoon I got the opportunity to get back to my routine. I noticed that the thighs were back to their old way with much carbon dioxide energy. This would be great if I was an Olympic cyclist or even if I was in demand for sexual services. For yoga siddha association, this is not beneficial.

It took some time to get that energy drawn out into the blood stream, back to the lungs, expelled and replaced with fresh air energy. But a student who is not that expert should be sure that at least he or she accomplished some infusion to whatever extent they have achieved and should not let the system regress to its old habits which are to keep much of the carbon dioxide packed into the cells as possible.

Dear Yogiraja,

Should the system be considered as the physical and the subtle; in situations of  relative set backs on account of accumulation of CO2, consumption of denser food matters, dis-ease or other, would it take the subtle body even longer to be "rectified" anew than the physical one?

It is the physical and subtle so long as there is a physical body. The systems are paired so long as the physical body is present. When the physical body is done, then there is only the subtle side to deal with.

The value of having a physical body is that one can indirectly observe what is happening in the subtle form by a gross means of observation which is much easier than keeping track of the subtle form.

Unless one has developed keen psychic perception, the motions and inner workings of the subtle form cannot be observed hence the necessity to have a physical body to begin yoga practice in earnest. Ultimately however one has to abandon this help from the physical body and use only the psychic energies, the subtle stuffs.

When they are together either of the bodies try to mimic the other. For instance in a wet dream when someone is making love to someone else in the astral domains, the physical body may try to mimic the subtle body by secreting sexual fluids. And again when there is physical sexual activity, the subtle body will secrete subtle sexual fluids. So the bodies are related in that way. Hence you can observe the condition of one of the bodies by knowing the condition of the other.

In the end however these mirror effects, which are like having two copying hard drives in a computer, should be abandoned by the yogi and he or she should just track what is happening in one system, in the subtle system, because after one is deprived of the physical form, one will be left only with the subtle one, at least until another embryo is developed.

Query: Can one not excel at sports just as good if prana is infused into the bodies?

MiBeloved's Response:

A yogi cannot be just as good at sports if prana is infused into the body, where the apana energy is mostly taken out of the form. It is the apana energy which builds up muscles and tendons for excelling at sports. The main reason why the yogi cannot excel however is that he won’t have the motivation or drive to excel. He will not have the required competitive attitude.

In the Mahabharata there are examples of persons who excelled at sports and who were doing yoga, people like the Pandavas and the Kauravas. Duryodhana excelled. Arjuna excelled but they had the competitive attitude which is considered to be ksatriya trait, warrior trait, not brahmin peaceful state. The yoga they were doing was a perversion of the asthanga yoga system, where it was used to increase material dominance, where one does it with increasing the apana energy.

Arjuna was like that during much of his young adult stage. When Ekalavya expertly shot through the mouth of a dog, Arjuna was aghast and demanded that Drona, the teacher, should do something to Ekalavya to cause the aborigine to lose his skill. Subsequently Ekalavya was forced to cut off his thumb which deprived him of marksmanship in bow releases.

When Karna repeated every one of Arjuna’s marksmanship acts during a sort of military Olympics, Arjuna was terribly embarrassed. This means that in his nature there was the complimentary ambition which is a part of the competitive nature which is sponsored by the apana energy.

It was not until near the end of his life, when Arjuna was squashed by some aborigines warriors who confiscated the Dvaraka city women whom Arjuna was escorting, did Arjuna finally gave up that attitude and took to the right mood of a yogi.

You can’t have your cake and eat it too, as people say. If you want to excel in sports, then do that and leave yoga aside or do that and practice a perverse competition-serving type of yoga, which will cause you to go deeper into the material world.

I was at New Vrindavan when Kirtanananda was accused of ordering the deaths of two devotees and of killing one himself. This person was posted as a pure devotee in more than one letter from his guru. And Kirtanananda himself posted himself as such and gave himself the name bhaktipada which means one at whose feet one acquires bhakti. But internally he was a very competitive person who wanted to excel over his god brothers. This in part drove him to commit and then rationalize away many criminal acts. These activities are sponsored by the apana energy.

Query: The prana infused accomplished yogi, how does he breathe when not doing pranayama exercise?

MiBeloved's Response:

The prana infused accomplished yogi breathes normally when he is not doing the exercises and feels the residual effect of when he last did the exercises. Due to the reduction in the apana energy his motivational basis for living changes over time.

In the life of the Pandavas we see this change in their attitude at the end, where they lost interest in everything competitive. Yudhishthira suddenly was able to abandon his interest in political and social reform. He was no longer interested in correcting anything. People were shocked since if someone came to him to complain about an injustice or criminal activity, he did not response in any way. People were disappointed. This means that he lost his interest in material existence, even his interest in the good side of material existence, even his interest in correcting wrongs and doing good in material existence.

Query: Inhale apply locks/ exhale release? What happens if done vice versa?

Inhale release locks/ exhale apply locks?

MiBeloved's Response:

This is done in reverse when one advances in the practice. If one does it the other way in the beginning stages, one will not be able to raise kundalini in the proper way.

However it is really:

Inhale apply locks--- exhale--- reapply locks.

In fact after several rapid breaths, one should apply the locks, then hold those locks and internally direct kundalini to the central spinal passage.

Then when one feels the need to breathe, one should do so while holding the bottom locks. Then one should inhale and clamp down the top locks, but the neck lock should be held throughout.

It takes time to learn all these fine details of practice. Don’t feel that it is so simple that you can learn it so quickly. There are many internal psychic actions which go along with the physical practice. These you can learn over time and getting more association from someone who is more advanced than yourself.
