This is a description of the astral body subtle creature leaving the physical body, human social creature. The astral body leaves the physical body at death, the way an insect escapes from its old shell. The shell remains behind and the insect flies off into the blue yonder. At death the subtle body goes into the astral domains and can no longer fit into the shell of the physical form, which is left in the physical world to decompose.

Leaving like this the astral person goes into the invisible world. There is a relevant verse from the Bhagavad Gita English:

The living beings are undetected in the beginning of a manifestation, visible in the interim stages, and are again undetected at the end of a manifestation. What is the complaint? (2.28)
