Apana Energy Removal

When doing breath infusion practice, one should be on the lookout for apana energy. This is the carbon dioxide and other waste gases in the body which can be removed by the breath process. Some gases in the body are bound into the blood in such a way that it cannot be removed through the lungs but there are other organs like the kidneys and the colon which are also involved in waste gas removal.
For the purposes of breath infusion, the focus is on carbon dioxide and other chemicals which are in a gaseos format and which can be drawn out of the body through the lung release system.
Initially, in fact for some years of practice, the student is told to push down on the apana energy so that it loops around the pubic area and then can arc across to the base chakra, hit kundalini and then move with kundalini up the spine. Even though this instruction is given as a downward action on the apana energy, what is really happening is that it is a downward action on the combined apana energy with the infused fresh air energy. It is not the apana energy alone.
When the infused energy buffers against the apana energy below the lungs at the navel area, the student may realize that as a burning sensation at the navel. This combined energy should be pushed down around the lower front of the body, through the groin with intentions of reaching the base chakra.
========================
Later in an advanced stage of the practice, the student will find that the burning sensation does not arise at the navel. This is because the apana energy is no longer mixing with the fresh air energy. Instead some of the apana energy is being extracted efficiently through the lungs and the remaining portion of it is staying hidden in various parts of the subtle body.
This remaining portion is collected in a more advanced state of practice. When this happens there will be a bunching up of this energy, which will form into a pixel cloud which is like a granite brick which if compacted with a sledge hammer shatters into several smaller bricks which are about half inch across.
The student should do the breath infusion and while looking down into the subtle body, if he or she notices or feels the buildup of this pixel cloud of negative energy, there should be focus on pulling that up through the body, through the neck and out of the subtle body through the top of the head.

Hi Micheal , thanks for sharing this. I got questions:
Do some foods or something make apana energy go into the body or it is naturally inside the body?
Is the belly breathing (Zen) or apana meditation in missing vippassana technique ( Goenka ) for same reason releasing apana energy ?
Are there some emotional experiences when apana energy releasing ? ^^"
Thank you very much.

MiBeloved's Response:
Apana energy is naturally inside the body. It is roughly the equivalent of carbon dioxide which is manufactured by the cells when they use fresh air (oxygen). It is also used by the cells in muscle building, in evacuation push and in other functions.
To increase the percentage of it in the body, humans take up habits like smoking tobacco and drinking coffee and liquor. Some of it manifest in the cells as ketones, which are harsh chemicals created in the body.

MiBeloved's Response:
I am not an expert of the vippassana system nor the system taught by Guruji Goenka. You would have to give details about these systems before I can fairly give an opinion.

MiBeloved's Response:
I am not clear on what you mean by emotional experiences. Emotion is a very broad word covering many different types of feelings and responses to perception. Which one specifically are you thinking of.
There are feelings when these energies move in the body. For instance in sexual expression experience there is movement of apana energy but it is then involved with sex hormone energy and with kundalini. The combination of these at the genitals produces emotions which we usually interpret as love.
In fact we frequently crave these feelings and for some of us, it is the aim of our lives and the only bright light in our existence.
But you have to be specific like that, where you give some reference and then I can answer the question.

unlimitedsun's reply:
On a broad, general and superficial level: It is a fact that elimination of apana energy will produce some type of emotional experience.
When one gives up any addictive drugs, and that the system starts to eliminate in the absence of additional intake of said substance; almost immediately starts an emotional, physiological, organic crisis. One reason for that being, the systems having been accustomed to a certain balance of energy want to maintain the equilibrium.
Each substance has a subtle counterpart that also influences the consumer on the subtle level. A bond is created through persistent exposure, and eventually it is a balance to be maintained. Changing such balance is upsetting to the system. So a progressive and cautious elimination is normally advised.
