What are the feelings and the actions of our ancestors when one person in the couple is having problems getting pregnant like a low sperm count or the female's tubes are blocked?

Usually the ancestors are unaware of the deficient reproductive fluids or malfunctioning reproductive organs. The ancestors’ senses are focused into the lusty energy which surcharges the fluids. If the fluids have the sexual charge, then the ancestors perceive that as being a desirable location, a place to be.
They will still be in the couples bodies and they will still be manifested in those would-be parents minds as the need for sexual intercourse, as an eagerness for it.
They will still pass out in the semen that is emitted from the male body but they will reenter that male again as soon as the sperm particle dies.
Once you are aware that your ancestors are wanting bodies and that they are in your psyche and their presence is interpreted by your mind as being the sex urge or need for sex pleasure, then your next step is to determine if you want to facilitate bodies for them.
Once you decide to do that, if you do decide not to short-change them, then you should do whatever is possible to make your body fertile and to have a fertile spouse. If you are unable to make your spouse fertile, then you may consider having another spouse.
If the flaw is in your body, and it cannot be rectified you may try to transfer the ancestors out of your psyche into the psyche of one of your relatives who are willing to bear the costs of having children. If that happens then you would be duty bound to help that relative with whatever progeny is derived. This could be moral support, financial help, child rearing services and so on.

Are the preferences that of the life force or something else?

In most cases they are the preferences made by the life force but since it is under influences at all times, those preferences are its influenced choices. It is not making its selections or attractions in an influence-vacuum. The influences are pressing on it from moment to moment and when it makes a certain preference that is done under particular influences.
It is carrying its own developed and acquired propensities from many lives, particularly from the most recent life, but these are either reinforced or supported by the particular astral environment it is in. There are the influence from other life-forces. These should be figured in.
Usually our procedure is to make a person take responsibility for his negative actions even if there is evidence that he was influenced. Take the case of the shooter who got the idea to kill others, from a gaming console. Should the manufacturer of the console and the person who created the software be held accountable? Should the shooter carry all the blame?
So the individual kundalini is held responsible in terms of the conventional view but the truth is that it was influenced in its preferences.

What if the womb of the spouse is occupied with an ancestor (pregnant) however ancestors are still pressuring the male for bodies? One obvious solution would be for the male to go outside the relationship but that would be detrimental to the relationship. And having sex with the pregnant spouse would cause more frustration for the ancestors. What would you suggest?

Every sexually mature adult has to deal with this type of situation which is that when one ancestor gets a break or is given one, still there are others who are eager for rebirth and who are pressuring to get bodies for themselves.
However the activation of the desire of the ancestors can be squelched by decreasing the lusty urge of the body. Their enthusiasm is manifested as the lusty urge and in fact much of that energy is theirs. One would have to study the aspects of lifestyle which increase lusty energy in the body and then one may strike on a plan to decrease those.
We know that there are substances which cause an increase in sexual lust, in libido. So there must also be substances or foods which decrease those.
Exposure to sexually-explicit media and acts, can also increase libido. So as one observes these affects one can take steps to decrease them.
Some previous societies gave males social approvals for polygamous marital situations. In such cases, we have heard of men having many children but in the modern era, such ideas are considered to be undesirable. In fact most societies have outlawed multi-spouses.
You mentioned having sex with a pregnant spouse. Obviously such sex would be non-productive in terms of progeny but productive in terms of release of sexual energy, which really means that some ancestors will be squirted out but they will not get a body.
Thus if you are really concerned about this, you should take steps to decrease libido and not to do anything, see anything, eat anything which would increase or aggravate it.
If you want to stay dry but you are constantly standing in a shower or going in the rain, then we have to question your sanity. Getting a large blower to dehydrate the water is not really the solution. The method is to not get wet in the first place.
This however will not solve all of the problem because a major part of it is the ancestors on the psychic plane who though they feel the urge for getting a body do not perceive of the difficulties of the persons who are to be or could be or could have been their parents.
To settle with these ancestors you have to increase psychic perception.

I often wake up in the middle of the night aroused wanting sex but when I went to sleep I was not horny. Is that my ancestors doing that?

It could be your ancestors and in all cases ancestors are involved either your own or of other persons whom you know or whom you have social contact with.
Usually however when this experience occurs it is after having a sexual encounter on the astral planes with someone who is using a physical body just as you are. Behind the scenes of all this is ancestral energy but still to your senses, the immediate cause of this would be someone who has a physical body, whom your astral form is making contact with while you sleep.
The question then is:
How to be recognizing the person whom you are contacting?
To do this, begin training yourself to wake up gradually, quietly, like a cat moving through a dark room. No one will hear cat. If you can wake up silently and gradually like this, the impressions from the person whom you encountered will manifest in the mind and you will be able to tell who it is.
With that information, you can try to verify that it is correct by observing the energies which you exchange with that person when you meet that person again physically. Usually what happened in the dream has specific energy content and when you meet that person physically again, you will again feel the same energy content and that can serve as verification that you are not just imagining something which has no basis in reality.
Apart from this, so long as you have a sexually mature body, the ancestors will always be in that energy and will be always ready to use that energy to get embryos. So this is ongoing. Everyone who is sexually mature and who has any libido left in them is subjected to this.

It is the nature of the subtle body, the body used in dreams, to break rules in order to fulfill desires. It is such that let us say you have a crush on someone, but it is not permissible morally for you to have a sexual relationship with that person, because society has these rules about moral conduct; then the subtle body is not concerned about that. It will break those rules on the astral planes and get that desire fulfilled. We are always under pressure of desire to act like that.
Especially with sex, the subtle body is a maniac. It will do anything, meet anyone anywhere for sex fulfillment. But again ancestors are also involved in that. They are a given. They are ever-present with us day and night. They will encourage such astral sex contact because usually if someone has astral sex, that person will crave the same fulfillment on the physical side and if it is done like that and there is no contraceptive, there would be a pregnancy, more or less.
