Today I woke up after a marathon sleep of 10 hours with a Sattvic and calm mind. I woke up in the middle of the night for body evacuation and tried to provoke an OBE unsuccessfully. For beginners, it is important to wake up with only that purpose in mind and without moving, for when one moves, the chances decrease quite a bit.

Swadhyaya: Have been reviewing and studying Chapter 5 of the Cchandogya Upanishad, the Vaishvanara Vidya or Panchagni Vidya entertained there that is similar to the 2nd section of the 6th chapter of the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad. The teachings in the Cchandogya are more specific and very related to the teachings of Krishna entertained in Anu Gita and masterfully expounded in "Anu Gita Explained" by MB.

The teachings in Cchandogya are Atma-Vidya, Saprapancha. Svetaketu, the son of Rishi Uddalaka, asks several questions from enlightened King Prahavana Jaivali, and he wants to know what compels a person to be born and what makes him to die. The Kings replies with several poignant questions: "Do you know where people go after they depart from this world? When people die, where do they go? Do you know wherefrom people come when they are reborn into this world? Do you know, have you any idea of the paths along which the souls ascend, the paths being known as Devayana and Pitriyana? (The Pitriyana path is well explained in MB's "Sex You!"). And: "Why is it that the yonder world is not filled with people and overflowing? Always, the world is able to contain people and it is never flooded with them. What is the reason for this?

These questions are very important to me. At 58 and facing a certain health challenge, I want to prepare as best I can. A malady that gives time for preparation is preferred to exit by accident or sudden heart attack, for example, that may catch one unawares.

Breath Infusion: Conducted a Bhastrika practice of approximately 20 minutes under several restrictions.

Meditation: Used ear plugs to increase concentration. Tried to tune into Naad sound right after breath infusion, but it was barely perceptible. I believe this is the result of the restricted Pranayama practice. Provoked light response on third eye by pressing eyeballs and the result was good. Concentrated there until it faded and then effected pratyahar towards core-self and retrieved with it to the back of the head. There was profound calmness, which I enjoyed. Naad sound then started to increase and I latched onto it for the remainder of the meditation.

Dream recall: One interesting dream was recalled but is now forgotten when I failed to jot down details, this is a mistake.

These reports are a welcome feature on Meditation Time. Perhaps that was Dear's view after he read the Blog Sir Paul posted about the proxy trial of George Bush.

Anyone who is able should file reports of their meditation practice but all the same, we have to deal with the social effects of the political people, just as Arjuna did in the Mahabharata.

Surya's report for today, illustrated the effects of the social impacts on practice.

One of his family members now visiting the USA is from Mali. This country is now in political shambles and much of it has to do with the killing of Qaddafi in another country. So just that alone has impacted Surya’s meditation even though he had nothing to do with it and the big players did what they did and are now removed from the repercussions which are vibrating through Africa.

But of course your report is refreshing.

Too bad, this is not the only part of human history which we should be attentive to.

Marcia Beloved's Response:

This is a very interesting comment. I understand that political and social events and trends affect all of us now and in future lives we might have on the earth. However, personally, I am training myself to be indifferent to most of it. I find social and political events quite interesting, but ultimately they only serve as a diversion from finding myself and making serious changes in my psychology.

I could only agree with Michael on his statement, if by being attentive, I was also deliberating acting in some way to influence social history.

I always figured that complete accomplishment of pratyahar, meant that I would lose all interest and not let any personal energy be diverted into family, social trends, political trends.

Is this a cop out? Maybe. Is this only to be practiced while in seated meditation? Maybe.

But I also think it wise not to assume a false sense of self importance regarding world history, unless I am a big player in world or regional events.

I suspect I already did that in previous lives, and so I am fascinated by society and politics, but I also know that I am not currently a factor in any of it.

In this life, I am an observer. I am only an actor insofar as people around me watch me and are affected one way or another.
