Comment to 'A Mother's Reflection on Her Black Son's Death'
  • From a general perspective it is possible to take into consideration the different voices.  It might also be possible to connect with both the pains and the correctives.

I had an Economics teacher, Dr. Paul Rappaport who made an interesting statement in his class of Macroeconomics back in spring 1991. That it made sense to him to get the ghetto kid educated, so that he will have better things to do in life than break in his car or simply car jack him (at that time carjacking was rampant.)

Actually, the closer community takes the brunt of it even before who was my middle upper class White suburban dweller Temple University teacher.

From that position however, he stated not only what he doesn’t want but also what he would like to see happen, a vision that includes the solution. For societal dialogue to be favored, the different facets need to encourage communication, and that starts with exposures, a direct mixing of the points of views.

Therefore it becomes possible to have a deeper understanding of what ails one side along with what is the ire on the other. Given that human beings are all motivated by very similar tendencies, it is almost easy to connect with the roots of individual choices and motivations.

Actually, it is not so easy because those choices and motivations are based on the product of a mixture of historical, societal and cultural foundations, which need to be considered in order for even a large and wealthy nation to aspire to the well-being of all of its children.

On a limited basis, by and large most parents (or even partners) are not able to understand the deeper reasons for the choices and motivations of the ones they love so dearly, they may not be able to effectively help particularly for such endemic concerns for all their sorrows and laments.

Crucial is the need for adequate and contemporary role models with the appropriate vision(s) that will steer a flock in the right direction. Such an individual is tasked (and taxed) with the propensity of multidimensional empathy, as a social motivator.

He or she needs on a first level to be sufficiently in touch within their own inner spheres of existence so that they can convey their particular community(s). They also need the ability to thoroughly integrate both sides of the stories, which is a split external concern for all others.

Finally, they have the ability and the courage to responsibly project in the future and decide beneficial steps and pathways that are advantageous and sustainable over the test of time and for all.
