Makes perfect sense!
The psyche is composed of the adjuncts so that perception may occur in some kind of way.
Ordinarily, perceptions also match expectations.
Under the influence, that equation is skewed, the intellect interprets sensorial reality differently, and in conjunction, the senses themselves can have distorted stimulations from expectations of what they perceive.
The chemicals' directly impacting sensorial perception is not a question of specie. It’s about the fact that anything that possesses a similar psyche configuration that is compatible with carbon-based life forms can be potentially affected.
However, subtler drugs/ substances are available in higher and subtler environments in order to induce transient "consciousness" alterations. Also, of course, the subterranean locals have their counterpart drugs as well.
The desirability of distorted reality perception or reprieve from reality altogether which is rooted in the psyche is really what ought to be taken under consideration, beyond the species or even the environment.
