Comment to 'Acharya Mun Biography'
  • That’s a really well done video highlighting asceticism and siddhi powers. I’ve heard about the so called “powers” of monks but generally Buddhas monks display these very selectively. Firstly, not everyone has the potential or inclination for these. Secondly, they are not requirements of liberation from birth and suffering. Thirdly, it is easy to become distracted from the ultimate goal of practice. Finally, I’d like to say that the video lacked an essential piece in that it didn’t tell of Acariya’s enlightenment experience. One can have all the mystic powers and abilities and still be bound to material existence. The jewel in the heart of the lotus was not revealed here.

    • "The jewel in the heart of the lotus", can you lead me to a good article on this?

I don't recall reading about Jewel in the heart of the lotus.

      • There was a reference to The Jewel in the Heart of the Lotus in an article on The Vipallasas by Ajahn Brahmavamso. It’s the transcript of his lecture on January 10th, 2001, titled:

The Vipallasas The distortion of view, perception and thoughts perpetuating delusion. It can be found at:

        bswa.org

The reference is on page 9. That whole article is worth looking at.

The jewel in the heart of the lotus has various meanings if you do a search but I always stick close to Theravada or Dzogchen sources.
