The abandonment reminds me of the images of helicopters leaving the American Embassy in Saigon with desperate people hanging on the outside when the Vietnam adventure ended in humiliation. Similarly when the Russians abandoned Their effort and Afghanistan. Is that what always happens when technologically advanced politically defined nations attack tribal people?
