Rectum Malfunction

Hatha Yoga has as an important part of it, the maintenance of the physical body, not as an end in itself, but as a way of keeping the subtle body efficiently toned so that it is affected the least by the physical system’s ailments. One problem which assails the physical body in its elderly condition is the digestive and excretive tracks. These begin with the mouth and end at the anus.

There are many problems which could arise as the body ages but in particular there is slow evacuation which is termed as a form of constipation or the lack of prompt removal of the food waste. The first step is to realize the ideal rate of travel of whatever is put into the mouth, so that the time taken for the transit of food through the stomach, higher intestines, colon, and rectum is minimum.

First one should know what the ideal rate of transit should be. Then one should know how to rectify it if it travels too slowly or travels for a part of the passage and then ceases to move.

A yogi should be attentive to this process in the body. He has a task to be aware of this on a daily basis. Worrying about the concerns of others is detrimental to him because the worry energy is limited. If he uses it for the interest in others, it will be reduced where he will not realize if he has problems with the colon and rectal inefficiency or system collapse.

What method should be used to get waste to exit the body promptly?

How often should waste be checked?

How does it affect meditation practice when the waste is not promptly evacuated?

Suppose, because of the elderly condition of the body, the muscular apparatus which transports the waste through the colon into the rectum malfunctions permanently. What should the yogi do?

How does one check to know if the waste quietly lingers in the lower colon and rectum?

If the muscular system no longer operates as it did in the youth of the body, what should the yogi do to remove the waste daily?

These are some considerations for a hatha yogi. In so far as the lack of removal of waste affects the consciousness experienced in the body, it is essential for the yogi to address these problems.
