The Fire Sermon

Ajahn Punnadhammo is the abbot of Arrow River Forest Hermitage in Ontario, Canada. He has studied and practiced Buddhism since 1979, and was ordained in Thailand in the Forest tradition of Ajahn Chah in 1992.  The Hermitage is in close proximity to Warroad in northern Minnesota where Michael Beloved lived in the 1970's.  It surprised me to find out that other spiritual aspirants were/are up there in the cold, chopping firewood, pumping water and braving extremely cold unfriendly conditions of nature.

I think Sir Paul Castagna posted the text of the Fire Sermon some years back on the old Meditation Time.    In this video talk, that sermon is explained very clearly along with the conditions under which it was delivered and to whom.

I don't intend this to be a challenge to the inSelf Yoga process. In actuality, these and other processes stand alone even if there are some commonalities. Just take a look if you are interested in learning about the Fire Sermon and how it represents the Buddha's path.

    • Great explanation of the Buddhist approach to sense control and sorting the sensual experiences from everything else in the psyche. There is more than one way to skin a cat. It is refreshing to hear of, read of and even practice other effective methods.
