Michael asked me to make a post on how this was done. So here is a brief explaination on how the translation was done.
The transliteration of Sanskrit verses to Kannada verses was done using the tool below:
Sanskrit verse: अथ योगानुशासनम्॥१॥
Kannada verse: ಅಥ ಯೋಗಾನುಶಾಸನಮ್ ॥೧॥
For the meaning of the split Sanskrit words as below:
atha – now; yogānuśāsanam = yoga – yoga and its practice + ānuśāsanam – explanation
I used the Sanskrit to Kannada dictionary to get the meanings right. For the words which were not found in the above dictionary I used the Sanskrit to English dictionary and English thesaurus to check and verify the meanings given by Michael and then translated them to Kannada.
For the Verses below:
This is the explanation of yoga and its practice.
I used the following websites which gives the meaning of the verses by several authors sequentially to understand it thoroughly.
I also used the following yoga sutras book (downloaded pdf version) to understand the verses thoroughly and then translated them to Kannada.
Patanjali Yoga Sutras by Swami Vivekananda
The science of Yoga by I.K.Taimini
Yoga Sutras of Patanjali by Clip Hartranft
Yoga Sutras of Patanjali by Octavian Sarbatoare
I also wrote to Michael when the verses were difficult to comprehend and asked him to simply the verses further so that the understanding becomes more clear.
In addition, I used Paatanjala-Yogadarshana Kannada book to verify that the Kannada words I am using for the verses are correct.
For the Analysis and Application section I wrote to Michael whenever I had doubts regarding any sentence or paragraph and asked him to explain it further and after thorough understanding translated them to Kannada.
This book would not have been possible without the help and support of Michael throughout the process of translation. I profusely thank him for making this possible and also for the opportunity given to translate and publish this book as well as the previous four Kannada books! Thank you very much!
